Hi All,
I picked up the new Oldcrow 6mm Dropship at the SELWG (South East London
Wargames) show this weekend. It looks like it has not made it to onto the
official Oldcrow web site yet, but I took a picture and posted it
on-line.

A little too Airplaney for my tastes....

Initially I thought the same. It does have a rather "chunky" feel to it,
although when the engine exhausts are mounted, it gives it more of
SCI-FI
orbit to ground feel. I am not sure if there are any other drop-ships
in
6mm that would fit the role/purpose of this model though. Any thoughts?

I'm not a big fan of true 6mm dropship minis. Because they're in scale to the
other figs, they tend to hog WAY too much groundscale for my tastes. What I
prefer is to use Miniatures that look like dropships, but are too SMALL
compared to my tanks etc. I figure the tanks aren't in scale to the terrain,
why bother making the ships in scale to the tanks? of course, I have a
different esthetic sensibility than others, so YMMV.
Currently I'm using a set of 10mm CAV Hedgehog APC's
as my dropships. They look a lot like armored-up
versions of the Space 1999 ships. Very boxy and
VTOL-ish.

My preference is against true 6mm also. As stated, it takes up too much room.
As of late I have been going with the Battleforce 2 scale of 1 hex equals 90
meters. This works out really well since I use a lot of Micro Machine
dropships(Aliens, Starship Troopers) for my DS's. The new DS's from IWM also
work well at this scale.

I have/have had micromachine minis in the past, they
left me feeling a bit ambivalent about them. I prefer
them for fighter/personal shuttle/escape pod type
craft, which I DO tend to run in scale to the grounf forces.
I was in a gaming store the other day and saw a B-Tech
Clix vehicle called a Saxon hover APC, it looks perfect as a laning craft.
IWM?
