I had something of a lucky break today--I managed to discover a
store with a nice little handfull of Ral Partha Ogre minis, all at 75% off! 2
Mark 5 Ogres, a Fencer, a pair of Combine Missile tanks, and a couple of
Howitzers. They are all, apparently, intact (with the exception of one Mark 5,
which is missing the secondary batteries. But that'w what plastic tubing is
for, right?). But anyway, this got me thinking about Ogres in DSII. The whole
reason that I first purchased the game was because the Ogre Miniatures game
was, while both fun and easy, less than satisfactory. My largest force, the
Red Death, is about 50% Ogre Combine minis, and 50% GW
Eldar....
Please don't ask why; it made sense at the time, I swear! I converted most of
the figs to DSII, but was never able to come up with an Ogre design that I
considered satisfactory. I used the modular design rules, and decided that,
rules or no, loss of a single tread module would not destroy the entire Ogre.
Lose one, go from Fast tracked to Slow. Lose two, go from Slow tracked to
immobile. Lose three, and you undoubtably have other things to worry about
beyond the fact that you are not moving. The problem was the weapons. There is
no way to really shoehorn the proper amount of guns into the figure, no matter
how I juggled the systems. I ended up defining the secondary batteries as
equivalent to a pair of RAM artillery units. I'd post the design, but I
managed to lose it somewhere over the past year. No great loss, in any
case.... Has anyone else done an adaptation of an Ogre to DSII? One that
actually works? I'd love to see it, if so.

AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
Sorry, I *DO* play "Ogre Miniatures," and can't find Ogre miniatures for love
nor money. ESPECIALLY the actual Ogres themselves. The *only* Ogre I've got is
a Mk III.
I congratulate you on your good fortune (but I still want to knaw my leg
off).

Thanks,
I've been using my Mark III for DSII upon occasion for about 6 months. I have
four size class 4 tread modules that are armor 5, reactive, ablative (yes, I
know you can't have both, but I want it to reflect the inherent toughness of
the OGRE) and two size class 6
modules Armor 7 RA with a DFFG/5 limited traverse (180), 4 APSW, and
I use the secondaries to represent a combined Local Air
Defense/Superior Point Defense system as it seems to me that the OGRE
would be awfully vulnerable to air attack. The aft module consists of a HAR
(Heavy Artillery Rocket Battery)with a total of five shots and 3 APSWs in the
rear section. Fast track until it loses one tread, where it becomes Slow track
mobility. It does OK, but where it excels is drawing fire away from my other
forces ;-)
Well, gee, I bought an Ogre Mark V for a dollar a couple of months
ago. (Blinks innocently). Was at a trade/auction at the hobby
shop. Guy I bought it from had just purchased it for 50 cents. He was pleased
with the transaction; so was I!
OK, let's work up some stats for the beast! One thing we'll have to consider
is what to do with the immobilized, boom, systems out special
chits - or is that already covered in the modular rules? I'll look
at
it again - perhaps we could trade ideas over private e-mail and
post results to the list next week.

I'm with John on this one (though I've at least got two Mark 5s, one from 3
years ago and one from 10 years ago where they reversed the number of primary

I wish SJG would come out with the long promised replacement figures.

I do have a few Ogre miniatures - Mk V, Mk III, 20 or so GEVs, a light
tank or ten, a brace of Heavies, a pair SuperHeavies... If you need just a few
to round out a unit, maybe I could help.
At CANCON they were selling GEV Carriers at $2.50 US a packet. No I didn't get
any, I spent every cent I had ( not quite true, had 85c left) on Epic.
