> ACTUALLY, those of us who have attended a few GenCons wonder about
Actually Mike Broadbent and I have been planning to play Dirtside in SGII
scale for some time now. (that is, everything in 25mm). We are building quite
a huge infantry force between us and have lots of vehicles slowly
accumulating (OK most of them are kits from other SciFi stuff- the
legacy of years of Anime related kit collecting). We are planning to play in a
local multifloor carpark where we know the management ( and which has rarely
used upper floors). Admiitedly we have dreaming about this for several years
but Mike's crazy enough to keep pushing towards it. I guess I'd better keep
painting. Local legend has it that I own the world's finest and largest
unpainted figure collection! If (or should I say when) we ever get this off
the ground we will post photos.
PLEASE if you are Australian DO NOT start hassling Mike and I to get involved.
This will make the event less likely to happen.

Fnord.
Actually, given the lack of availability of OGRES figs, I was wondering if GZG
had ever considered producing giant cyber tanks for DSII. I mean, even if SJG
does eventually do them again, there are *lots* of countries (Israel, Japan,
China) that have OGRES beyond the North American Combine and the
Paneuropneans. Lots of room for different types of OGRES...uh, I mean GZG
Cybertanks...on the table...

Could be fun. (8-)
(Actually, I remember somebody at GZG-ECC II talking about a 'rump'
battalion level (!) action fought with SG II. Tidbits about having to get a
large room floor, several hours a turn, fought over two or three days. Does
anybody
know what I'm talking about, or is the lack of sleep finally getting to
me..? (8-) )

i have always entertained the notion of using the floor of my old high school
gym for a really huge game of FT, complete with a full solar system, star
bases, fleet yards, refeuling stations, etc...etc...
probibly have to order one heck of a huge custom star mat from GeoHex

Steve has been saying that for 4+ years. The closest he came to
producing plastics for OGRE was via a Hong Kong/Taiwan manufacturer
about 3 years ago. Fell through because even with the cheap labour and
facilities, plastics were too expensive. Soldiers and Swords were going to
make metal minis about 4 or so years ago... before they went under. Richard
(the OGRE line editor) was shopping around for a new manufacturer (and came
VERY close) when Steve decided to go with plastics. Richard did
3-D models for production and contacts were made.... until Steve got
cold feet about the prices (COMPLETELY understandable; an OGRE MkV mold would
have been $20,000(US)+...!)

Masters were made for the Chinese and Japanese OGRE cybertanks (and you could
play withe them back at GenCon '95 and '96). Simtac makes some nice large
vehicles tht could easily pass for cybertanks.
Of course, based on their queality track record, I am sure GZG would produce
some *keen* designs!:)

Actually, the great guys at Sci Fi Supply for several GenCons
('95-97?) ran a 25mm OGRE game! They had produced a number of missile
tanks, GEVs, light tanks, heavy tanks, and infantry. They also made a Mk V and
a Mk III Ogre.... They played it on a 10' by 30' area.
Ken
Yeah, they also do the Mega Star Wars and Battletech games. They Did a 3 foot
scale model of a Grav Tank for a game project I was doing (Razorwing
for playstation-never shipped) Nice guys. They are based in Orlando Fl.

Hi All, While we didn't have all the trimmings (solar systems, star bases,
etc.) we ran an arena FT game using full sized plastic models at Dexcon in NJ
a few years back. Both fleets had 12 ships. We had a Battlestar Galactica
Fleet, done in orange with black tiger stripes vs. a Cylon/Star Trek
Fleet. Both sides were supplemented with odd one off ships. A few were run of
the mill stuff like an ID4 ship but others were quite fun like the Revell
classics 1950's spaceship concepts and flying saucers. We just substituted
feet for inches and ran everything else as normal. One of the players had a
bit of what I and the other GM called the Captain Kirk attitude and tried to
impress everyone with his superior gaming knowledge. Despite his "expertise"
he managed to fly one of his ships off the gaming area which ended up costing
his side the battle. Everyone else seemed to have a fun time and we got quite
a few spectators. If you can find a big enough space to do it in it's a lot of
fun and an impressive game to show off to passers by. Just remember to bring a
few heavy duty tape measures.:)
> Masters were made for the Chinese and Japanese OGRE cybertanks
Maybe I'm crazy, but I would have sworn that GZG *did* make an Ogre at one
point. It was a two piece resin model, with four seperate tread units on the
bottom half an Ogreish primary battery in the front, two missile tubes in the
back, and a very short tower on the top. I have one myself,
obtained several years ago from Stan Johansen -- the first American
importer of GZG, if I recall correctly. It's still sitting in a drawer,
screaming for a decent paint job....
I assume that this piece is now oop?
> Masters were made for the Chinese and Japanese OGRE cybertanks
Ah, the old "Troll" cybertank.... :-)
Made a long time ago, and a bit crude and basic, but it did the job.... (The
name was partly a play on the "ogre" genre, and partly a homage to the Keith
Laumer "Night of the Trolls", one of the early Bolo stories) Yes, long since
deleted (and for production rather than legal reasons, before anyone asks
<grin>), though I THINK the mould is still around
somewhere.... ;-)
> i have always entertained the notion of using the floor of my old high
I have thought about getting a warehouse to use. It would, of course, be
called the Warhouse.

NEVER saw it. It would be cool if something like that would find its way back
into production.

Ooooo, neat! Was it a model of the Lesser Troll (Bolo mk III) or the Greater
Troll (Bolo mk V)??

oh, that's an easy one: have a look at www.ford.com, www.landrover.com,
www.bmw.com... they're about the right size, but they will need some
kitbashing, i admit. i've got a big metal pipe i found out on the Longwall
street roadworks that would make an ideal main battery:).

"Troll" huh... You all have read the last book by David Weber, right? Wouldn't
be an "Apoclypse Troll" now would it?

Yes, and no, respectively.... :-)
