Sorry, I had no wish to torture anyone with the news of my discovery...I don't
have that sort of luck often, believe me! My other Ogre is actually one of the
old Grenadier models, and it interesting to see the differences in the
figures. From what I have been told by Steve Jackson (he was at a local SF
convention a few months ago) Ogre is currently being tentatively planned as a
boxed set for the next release, containing enough figures to play the basic
scenario. The figures would be metal, but I do not know who would produce
them. This is far from certain, however, so don't hold your breath. On the
other hand, I remember getting a resin model of a
VERY Ogre-like figure from Stan Johansen miniatures, who in turn
imported it from (drum roll, please) Ground Zero Games! This was well before
the deal with Geo Hex. Does GZG still produce this model? It was from their
resin Dirtside range. This was, I must admit, 5 or 6 years ago, but it might
be worth checking on.

The '96 catalogue does list some resins for ds2. These are....
MT-20 Giant flatbed GEV loadcarrier
MT-25 Large GEV mobile Command Vehicle (re-released)
MT-26 Heavy GEV bulk cargo transport vehicle.

btw I am expecting some of the new GZG ds2 minis based upon there sg2 resin
vehicle designs. They looked great in the catalogue update, i'll report more
fully when they come through the post.

They are interested in producing more Ogre stuff, but they come right out and
say that they want to do the new material as miniatures, not board games. I
guess we'll just have to keep waiting...

Are the miniature rules a variation of the hex game? For instance, do you
still add up some number of units' attack strength and compare to a defense
strength? Or are the rules redone for the miniatures game?

An Ogre boxed set? This would be sweet. The Ogre/GEV system is
the smoothest, quickest, miniatures system ever written. It lacks the great
detail of a DSII, but it's so quick you soon forget the lack of detail and
lose yourself in the tactics of whatever scenario you're playing at the time.
I wonder if SJG can price a boxed set of that size competitively against, say,
a GW boxed set? Bet they can...

Yep. A very smooth transition from board to minaitures. A few variations and
added details arise,m but it's essentially just as fast as the board game. I
play it nearly every weekend now, so if anyone has any questions, ask away.

BTW, why doesn't GZG make a bid to do the minis for Ogre/GEV?
Makes sense to me.

I have a single metal Mark V Ogre from donkey's years ago. If you look at the
size of the hulland the slopes of the armour, you'll see that they are
VERY similar to those of a 1/76 scale T-34 tank. I'd suggest getting
the cheapest such tank kit available, and doing a conversion. Personally, I
wouldn't bother with the hull articulation, I never liked that feature anyway;
if you do like it, notch the upper hull sides with a hacksaw and fill in with
plastic card. I'd suggest 1) assemble the basic hull 2) cut off the front
corners of the hull and plate over the resulting holes with plastic card. 3)
cut a profile of the Ogre superstructure and "mast" from plastic card, and fit
it to the hull 4) use plastic card and balsa to build up the superstructure 5)
fabricate the tread modules from plastic card or balsa 6) add weapons and
details as you see fit

I don't have the mini's game, but the board game version. If you get onto his
site, there are a couple of files for the ogre mini's game. One allows
(manned) mecha, and the other allows walking cybertanks... The stats given are
identical to the board games version, except all ranges have been doubled. The
other rules seem to have been adjusted for the mini's enviroment.

To speed up play, we have run Ogre Minis on my Geohex Battlescape terrain. We
just counted each hex as 2", and the games went very smoothly. Ogres (of
which our whole group has two-a Fencer and a Mk III) take up two spaces.
We used the following minis for Ogre Minis vehicles:
Ral Partha Battletech Demolisher-Ogre Minis Superheavy Tank
GW Epic superheavy tanks (Baneblade, etc)-various OGRE MK I's (with
diff. wpns)
Fortress Figures Plastic Hovertanks (from the $10.00 bag)-GEV PC's and
GEV's
RP BTech Savannah Masters-LGEVs
Various CMD Helicopters-Various VTOL's from the online Airstrike rules
(which need some tweaking, BTW)
smaller CMD tanks (5/blister)-LT TANKS
bigger CMD tanks-HVY TANKS
GW Epic Imperial Gd & Marine Stands-INF
CMD Light and Heavy Boats-We made up rules for HVY, SHVY, and MSL ships
(we
love having major river crossings-one OGRE limped to the safety of the
river with only one tread unit left!)
SIMTAC missile tanks-MSL TANKS
SIMTAC ?rolling thunder? cybertank & my Fencer-Any kind of OGRE MK2 or
larger we needed to represent)

As you can see, our group is very big into generic figures. Have Fun!
