As I've said the following in the past, I thought I'd reply directly instead
on list. Hope that's ok.

While generally 10-20 times as expensive, as has been mentioned on the
list, the Evil Empire(tm)'s Tau Tiger/Devilfish APC/Tank is mighty
sweet.
Have you ever considered a ST:DS9 Runabout model, that's occasionally still
found in cut-out bins? I've seen them used almost straight out of the
box, but I opined that it'd be a better dog dropship with the front sawn off
to make a small shuttle, and the ass made the front. Take some skill to cover
the hole in the now-rear with appropriate engines or loading chute or
rear gunner or whatever, but it would end up looking all business.
Unusual thoughts for a vacc-head, no? ;->=

Try this for a Tau dropship

Would serve both SG2 and DS2, as there's little to give the scale away -
even the cockpit looks fine at either scale.

While I just can't see the Tau arriving in a shoebox, even so nicely
accessorized, and I'm shuddering at what the final price will be, I have to
admit, she's a keeper.
Would this be more of a lander than a dropship, especially in 15mm? Whose
nation do you think it best represents?

Given that the Tau all speak with Bert Kwouk accents, surely the
Japanese ? ;-)

Dropship in 6mm, Lander in 15-25 is my vote. Again,
far too big for my tastes in 6mm, hogs too much table space. Now, if FW ever
produces her in Epic scale....
Whose

Mine. If the above criterion is met.

Funny, I'd use just the reverse for terminology...
Maybe I'm thinking 'landing ship'.

I thought a dropship was a large interface craft, capable of landing large
units, while a Lander, or Assault Lander, was a smaller craft for inserting a
small unit or team.

And to those of us who came up through Battletech, a dropship is something you
drop out of during the insertion, because nothing moving
at sane aerospace speeds would be able to make it down safely. :-)

I did come through B-tech, into the light of the True
Game. IIRC, technically Dropships could either insert from orbit OR land and
debark dirtside, depending on
the situation - drop insertion for Hot LZ's, OR
landing far from enemy units and debarking in peace.
Battletech didn't really have much that was equivalent to a smaller lander,
unless it was the Leopard class Dropship.

Oh, that's beautiful! And being a Forgeworld product, I'm sure she's a steal
at only US$350. Plus she'll be obsolete when the new rules come out and you'll
have to buy the next edition, the Orca JJNANJ*.

Has anyone ever seen models done of the ships from Space: Above and Beyond? I
recall there being some decent tech in that show, even if the acting was
horrid.

The only models I've seen were resin Hammerheads. Some of the movie
Starship Troopers toys were of the drop-a-box variety.

I only saw piccies, so I wasn't even sure of scale, but there's one on the
Acme site (thanks, Lewis Dabbs!) at:

Hurry, hurry, hurry, only six left!
Now, why is the fighter almost twice the dropship?
Oh, concerning the Saratoga, I'm pretty certain there have been attempts; the
old Stellardyne carrier was certainly influenced by it. Damn, still wish more
were available.
