Hi all,
Well, the master moulds are made for the first batch of new ESU
ships, and all of them have come out OK - so I can now confirm what
is available (or will be in a day or two once the production moulds are made
and we start to spin some out....)
We have....
FT 232 New Scoutship (pack of 3) 1.50 GBP FT 233 New Corvette (pack of 3) 2.00
GBP FT 234 New Frigate (pack of 2) 2.00 GBP FT 235 New Destroyer (pack of 2)
2.50 GBP FT 236 New Light Cruiser 2.00 GBP FT 238 New Heavy Cruiser 3.00 GBP
FT 242 New Superdreadnought (includes NEW stand - see below) 12.00
GBP
FT 244 New Heavy Carrier (includes NEW stand - see below)
12.00 GBP
More classes to follow once Salute is out of the way!
Now, as you'll have noticed, none of these have names yet - so I'm
asking for suggestions from you guys on the list.... obviously they need to be
in keeping with the original ESU class names, a mix of
Russian and Chinese - so, any good ideas?
Oh yes, PICTURES..... all being well I'll be taking some later today, and will
obviously be emailing them over to Paul for putting up on the GZG site ASAP,
but as that may take a while to get done if there is anyone else who'd be
happy to put them up on another suitable site straight away for the listers to
see (Dean...?) then please let me know.
One thing you will notice as soon as you get to see the pics is the
STAND under the big ship classes (SDN and CVH) - at last, I've got
round to doing an ALL- METAL LARGE HEX BASE for bigger ship classes -
it's approx. 50mm diameter (42mm across flats), has a very solid cast
metal mounting post (non-tapered, so it can easily be replaced with
brass rod if you prefer) and the base is marked with the 6 fire arcs
plus additional tic-marcs at all the "clock-face" points. The new ESU
ships, though BIG, are very stable on these new stands - and they
should work well for the other big ships in the FT range too. They will be
INCLUDED in the price of the new ESU large classes as noted above, but will
also be available separately to use for any other large models:
FT 003 Large hex stand (metal) - single 1.50 GBP
FT003A Large hex stand (metal) - pack of 4 5.00 GBP
These will be available in a few days, along with the new ships, and we'll
have stocks of them at Salute!
Best,
> Oh yes, PICTURES..... all being well I'll be taking some later today,
Jon,
If you like, you can send me images and I'll put the pics onto my web server,
announced here of course.:)

Pictures are now up here: http://www.star-ranger.com/FullThrust.htm
Details will follow on that page after I get the kids to bed.

One, courtesy of my Russophile son, is the "Strelets" class. It's a
17th-century Russian term for a rifleman or militiaman, so it might be a
good name for one of the smaller classes, particularly if the ESU thinks of
them as attrition units.

Just seen them on Dean's site... VERY nice. So nice, in fact, that you may
have to rework the original "new generation" classes of BC and BB to
make them fit the new fleet design ethos -- although I suppose it makes
sense for the hull layout to have gone through a process of evolution,
drawing ideas from the BC/BB/BD/CVL and the newer CA as well. I can see
why you talked about a Vor'Cha resemblance for the SDN, and indeed, the whole
set has a vaguely Klinkish look to it, albeit with rather more pronounced
surface detail than the average Trek ship.
Now all I have to do is resist their siren call... They do look great, but I
have more than enough unbuilt minis at present.
Oh, no! They're calling to me... and I'm going to Salute... Aagh! Call a bank
manager! I... mussst... resist.....
<well, we all know how that kind of battle ends, don't we? <eg>)

OK, ta for that one - would fit nicely for either the FF or DD, I
reckon. Individual ships could then be named for Russian or Chinese grunts,
real or fictional.....

The ships just released are only the first phase of the new fleet -
there will be a new SB, CE, BC, BB, BDN, CVL, CVE etc. all of which I hope to
get to work on as soon as Salute is over! (Well, OK, maybe after a couple of
days of sleep....)

No, Phil.... you NEVER have enough unbuilt/unpainted minis..... ;-)

We'll probably have some special deal packs made up with some of all the new
classes in for the show, if that's any help...? <fake innocent smile>

You may get away; I've never seen the Narns so stunned.
However, the earther Heinlein fans are not so slow to act, or so merciful. I
bear the scars...

The Narns are going to need a stiff drink. Then they're going to have a *long*
talk with you. They might need another stiff drink afterward.

Hmm, looting through my books and so on I have a few suggestions:
One that I ran across would be the "Long Chun" Spring Dragon class... more
fitting for a larger ship methinks, since dragons are considered large,
imposing creatures (even in communist china:D)
As well, previously mentioned conjectural classes can also be picked
(I'm more for brand new names, but should there be a bind where no-one
can make a decision, these would be nice to fill in the cracks):
FG: Grisha & Kunitsa CL: Kiang
Finally, one good classname perhaps for the CH would be the "province" class.
Preferably in chinese, I tried to feed it into babelfish but it gave me the
character instead of actual roman characters....
Chinese style names for the various new ESU classes could be
FT 244 the Heavy Carrier:- Shengfeng (Victorious Wind)
FT 242 the Superdreadnought:- Dahan (Grand China), Taihe (Great
Harmony), Hualong (Dragon of China)
FT 238 Heavy Cruiser:- Biaolong (Storm Dragon), Xinglong (Star
Dragon) or Tianlong (Heavenly Dragon)
FT 236 Light Cruiser:- Haitun (Dolphin) or Meifeng (Beautiful Phoenix)
