Cool!! Are these in 25mm? Also, are there any plans to do vehicles or is the
plan to use current GZG vehicles?

Yes, 25mm (though they will mix in with some of the less-caricatured
28mm stuff as well).
These are officially sanctioned by David Drake. In a co-operative
effort, Old Crow are doing some new vehicles that are closer to David's
concepts,
and we're doing the crews for them. Our old "not-quite-Slammers" range
will stay in production.

Sounds good!:)

I'm sorting out my orders, just waiting for the dang
study loans to come through... :-/

Are the slammers eligible for squad/platoon orders
like the Stargrunt troops?

Just an idea... Have you got concept scetches of figures? They would be nice
to see.:)

Yes, they are, though the "support weapon" (buzzbomb and grenade launcher)
figs aren't done yet (they are due soon) - you can order a platoon or
squad, but right now it would only consist of a mix of pistols, SMGs and
riflemen.
> Just an idea... Have you got concept scetches of

There are concept drawings for the weapons, which John Treadaway did -
I'm not sure if he's put any up in the Slammers stuff on the Warlords' website
(try www.salute.co.uk). The uniforms, commo helmets etc came out of email
discussions with Dave Drake, plus some snapshots of a mate of John's wearing
some 'Nam era US tankie gear.....

Ok Laser, here's the deal - you (and the rest of the guys on the list
who
are reading this and are interested) get us enough pre-orders together
to cover the cost of moulding a pack of 15mm IF, and we'll do 'em..... bit
like Nic's 100 Club, but a bit more unofficial...... we'd need to sell
about 60 packs (of 8 figs) to hit break-even point.

Over to you.... ;-)

(BTW, this goes for any of the other SG ranges that you'd like in 15mm,
too....)

I've got three tanks and one combat car in 25mm; I suppose I should get some
appropriate troops, though these poor babes will never get a proper
workout, hell, a paintjob, with a vacc-head like moi...

> So when do we get the 15mm Slammers (he says with faint hope ...) ?

Ok, put me down for three each, and three if you ever do a 15mm Station and
Ship Crew pack. Yeah, I'm crazed, but maybe this will get something named
'Evans'. The closest I've got to a named item is a Kra'Vak Riding Beast
"cavalry".

While the Slammer books are some personal favorites IMO the armored combat
would be more appropriate to DSII (Can I ask for a DS III?).

Just curious, but are these going to be "stand-alone" minis or is there
a game planned to utilize them? (Not disparaging SGII, but it has it's own
minis and story).

Thanks! Bill

Oerjan was asking in regards to the 6mm (DS scale) stuff. Jon was indicating
60 packs for break even for the 15mm stuff.

> What figs are available in 15's right now?

The four main powers (NAC, NSL, ESU, FSE) have at least one regular squad of 8
(the ESU have at least 2 different regular squads: one with a cape and the
same without) and a squad of PA. The UNSC and IJN also have a regular squad
each. The Kra'Vak
have a regular squad, a "cavalry" squad (think Warg-mounted
Predators), and a PA squad. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Thinking about it, I have this feeling the IJN also have a PA squad, but not
sure.

It all should be detailed in the online catalog, which I cannot
get to at this time (low-tech interface from home means no real
web access except lynx, and that doesn't give you pics ;-)

What is happening is this (I don't think I'm giving away anything that hasn't
already been released on Dave Drake's own website):

There is a book on the Slammers being prepared, written by John Lambshead and
John Treadaway. It will be published by Iain Dickie (Pireme Publishing,
publishers of Miniature Wargames magazine). The original concept was a sort
of Osprey-like guide, but that has now expanded to include a game system
as well (which John Lambshead is writing). We were asked to do the figures,
and Old Crow the vehicles.
I think the intended publication date is late 2003/early 2004, for a
major launch at Salute 2004.

Add me for 6 packs of New Israelis, 4 packs of crew figures, 6 Slammers.

I'd also put in a vote for generic (combat fatigues, caps / berets /
bareheaded) gun / heavy weapon crew and generic (cap / beret / bonedome)

vehicle crew, both full-figures and half-figures for putting in hatches.

If these appeared I'd have at least half-a-dozen of each.

Cool... Then put me down for 16 packs of 15mm Phalons.

Now, what about 15mm vehicles? I'm sure there would be a _lot_ of
interest in those, and a greater likelihood of people getting together and
having them produced. (I'm guessing I won't get to see 15mm Phalon vehicles,

Looks like 15mm Slammers figs might become a reality long before
anything else. If I count correctly, that's a pre-desire order of
47 packs right now.

Second in line are 15mm Phalons, with -- if I have the count right --
27! Now, if we could only get another 33 Phalon packs sold... I'm tempted to
pick them up just get the darned things made! *L*

to do 15mm DirtSide, but even then...)

Allen, are there any 15mm vehicles for Phalons? I wouldn't mind picking some
up except I would want some appropriate looking vehicles as well.

Not that I've been able to find. Jon has two 25mm vehicles, plus a drone pod,
but nothing in 15mm. I'm trying to hunt down 15mm vehicles that would work.
They only have to look "organic" or "snail-like", preferably grav or GEV
driven.

Well, if you drum up more interest keep me informed and I may jump in to help.
Also, if you have any suggestions for vehicles as well let me know as I
currently can't think of anything at the moment in the 15mm range that are
suitable!

I'd be interested in 4 packs of slammers and a couple of the station crew
and phalons. What I really want are the BUgs and some vehicles - AV6
and AV9's.

Ah, but some of us love it because:

1) It's my beloved 6 mm scale (okay, I am pretty much pre-MG where mass
is important in a literal sense - anything after the 1870's up to SF has
less useful 'mass' appearance.) 6 mm aka as 1/300th or 1/285th although
the anal-retentive will disagree.

2) I like company (-) actions at least as much as
Platoon/Squad/skirmish/RPG battles.

3) I can include BT packages I have bought on bargain bin or second hand
(Kurita infantry - multiple boxes, proto-mechs selected Mechs...)

I * would * like to see the chits replaced by dice (I like chits but some
people don't that i game with...)

Gracias, Glenn

I really don't want to be unpopular with this comment, but there is a danger
to producing the same vehicle in multiple scale. I reference Agents of Gaming
introduceing the Fleet Action scale, instantly killing off the entire market
for their full size line. This is the first thing they did to kill
themselves off. That said, I prefer 15mm as I have thousands of other
15mm figures and lots of 15mm terrain. I hate going to another scale.

But, I was considering doing 25's just because that's where the figures were.
When 15's become a real option, that basically eliminates me as a 25mm
customer. Looking at this from GZG's perspective, is this really the
way you want a customer to think? The rules are great, the miniatures
are excellent, is there a business reason for the 1) additional inventory
2)
splitting an already small market.

That being the case, I would like to see a complete 15mm line of everything,
including civilians, space ship crews (overalls, clip boards, tools, consoles,
etc), vehicles, troops. Space ship crews should not have hats. There is
absolutely NO REASON why an engineer shoulds where a hat in his own engine
room.). Lots of aliens too.

Now while I really would like to see that, that doesn't mean that there is a
business reason for it. I don't think that GZG could break even on the stuff I
want to see.

15mm figs: Small, but 2 packs of Crew (/Station) figs would be useful,
please Jon (I've got a fair few from elsewhere) [I'll pick up at a
show][when/if...;-)].
I may want some Slammers, too but I'll give numbers later rather than muck
figures around here. Cheers,

AOG did not kill off their line by comming out with a smaller line of ships.
In one scale a destroyer cost about $10 while in FA the same amout would buy a
package of 3 ships. If you wanted only a few ships the original scale was
fine. If you wanted a large fleet action then the

smaller scale was better. I did use the FA fighter for both scales manly due
to the fighters looking "better" and costing less (my stands are mounted three
fighters per stand and there is a dial to show the actual number).

So for example: Narn original scale 26 ships FA 102 ships and 68 stands of
fighters Centauri original scale 35 ships FA 145 ships and 124 stands of
fighters by the way to plug GZG FT UN fleet 141 ships and 56 stands of
fighters

Historical minatures have been using duplicate lines in multiple scale for
many years Essex duplicates in 15mm and 25m for most of their lines
Superior 1/1200 and 1/2400 scale ships
Old Glory may have split off their 15mm off but it still made in 15mm and 25mm

Note that FMAS will work in 15mm but looks better (and has a scale matched to)
25mm. There are also a lot of people who don't care for 15mm and will stick
with 25mm.

The problem with Agents of Gaming was that their large ships were very
expensive and a pain to play with. They were so big that you needed a big
table or had to handle ships bumping into one another. The fleet scale just
made more sense for everyone involved. It's not like you had to worry about
terrain or buildings.

The case for 25mm versus 15mm is different. There are people who simply will
not play 15mm. They find them too hard to paint, or they find it difficult to
find pre-made buildings. There are those who don't like 25mm, and many
of those people are already playing SG2 in 15mm anyway. They want GZG vehicles
versus what they are doing now.

As mentioned, with a release of FMAS you'll be able to use a small smattering
of your 25mm figures for 15mm. I suspect, actually, that people will end up
with a couple of large SG2 forces in 15mm or 25mm and a lot of small forces
for FMAS almost entirely in 15mm.

<sotto voce> scale for 15mm is 1" = 10ft/3meters, rather than 25mm's
1"=6.5
feet ...

If you're playing a RPG, use 25mm. If you're playing a military unit (ie not
focused on individuals), 15mm works fine.

25mm is easier to paint, in the sense of picking out all the details. 15mm is
easier to paint, in the sense that there aren't as many details that you need
to pick out. For ECC, I painted 17 of 15mm Afghanis in the same time that I
painted one 25mm IF soldier. The IF soldier looks a lot better, of course, but
OTOH I had the Afghanis finished in about 30 minutes except for the bases.

Well, according to AOG (when they existed), orders for the full size figures
from stores dropped to near zero once the FA size came out. They had to
abandon the Full Size line entirely.

Hopefully, this won't happen here.

GZG at least has very playable rules.

MY plans (other than for DS2 - my main effort - and FT - my
"afterthought" forces) is to have small but complete 25 mm (Starguard and
older SF figures I already have) forces (several squads to a Platoon minus)
supplemented by 'to be bought' GZG squads * and * in 15 mm (I got
a deal so I now own 15 mm figures.) In other words 'duplicate' forces!

(okay some fudging will be necessary in some cases altrhough I do have some
exact second hand same figures in 25 and 15 both) for those
scenarios using Stargrunt 2/Starguard/Space Marines rules

When FMAS comes I will probably try it in both...
