Subject: off topic and wierd but......

I figure with the wide range of ages and knowledge of science fiction, etc
that I might get lucky so here goes.

10 or more years ago, I came across a book in the local library, a work of
fiction. In this book, there are full color space ship/battles
illustrations. The book tells the tale of a fictional future war between
earth, Alpha centauri (both 'good' guys) and proxima centauri (bad guys).
The library edition was a hardcover, approximate 8 1/2 by 11, roughly 50
pages.

The idea was that on any one page would be a VERY cool illustration of a
ship/ships...and on the opposite page were the "statistics" for the
fictional vessel and its psuedo history about how it was used in the
'war'.

all the illustrations were either by the same artist, or in a VERY similar
style. I want the book for those illustrations, they were just incredible.
The psuedo history/war is cute too.

But I cant remember the name!!! I know its not MUCH to go on..there's probably
a dozen sci fi art books that this could be...but if anyone hasd any idea at
all, or even a W.A.G then let it fire.

Certainly sounds like it. My (UK) softcover copy was published by
Hamlyn, with ISBN 0-600-384-39X (1979).

There also exists _Great Space Battles_ (by Cowley and Charles
Herridge), Hamlyn 1979; my hardback has ISBN 0600-383-687.

I happen to still have my copy from way back. I'm supposed to scan in the
artwork of the Tarantula for someone here, too! Maybe I can do that today...

There are actually a few books in the 'Terran Trade Authority' series by
Stewart Cowley.

Spacecraft 2000-2100 AD
Great Space Battles SpaceWreck: Ghost Ships and Derelicts of Space Starliners:
Commercial Travel in 2200 AD
Spacebase 2000 (compiliation of Spacecraft 2000-2100 AD and Great Space
Battles)

Often you can find them on ebay, thats where I got the full series and I just
saw and auction for Spacebase 2000 last night.

Don't forget "Spacewrecks" as well, which I think is really the coolest of the
three that I've seen. I've got 3 of the 4 (I'm only missing Spacebases, and
would love to find a copy). LMK if you want to see the covers; I'll scan 'em
for you.

No need I think. This thread got me interested and I managed to find this
synopsis page on the web:

Interesting stuff, if only I wasn't broke...

There is another one called Great Space battles that is similar in scope. This
covers several battles, one between human space and a system called Laguna (2
inhabited planets), a Rebellion and a few other interesting stories. The
illustrations weren't done for the book as I recall, but were appropriate for
the stories. (mostly..)

I to like the paint designs on the ships.
