Subject: NI stuff

Hello all,

I've been playing with the some of the NI fleet recently and have been having
quite a bit of fun. The LRPT's and the stealth hulls are great. It seems to me
that they are very well balanced considering the lack of any beam weapons
above level 2.

One question: does anyone know what the icons next to the carrier bays (the
row of 6 boxes) are supposed to represent? I haven't seen them before, but my
best guess is to keep track of you're fighters. Lemme' know if I'm on the
mark.

I am now anxiously awaiting the IJN SSD's.

Regards,

Either fighters or endurance.

Steve, I'm pretty sure you are correct. Even though a d6 next to the stand
works, they tend to get knocked over so a set of 6 boxes is a nice way to keep
track of fighters.

In the SSDs I have been doing lately, I actually have 2 sets of 6 boxes for
each fighter group, 1 for the number of fighters and the other for endurance
which is very helpful if you are using the proposed new fighter rules -
anyone play those lately? I haven't seen any comments on them for a while.

See the carrier at http://home.quixnet.net/deboe/ft/ifships_v3.htm ,

Thanks guys. I was kinda hoping that the boxes were for some sick new NI
weapon, but I figured it was for the fighters.

Maybe you have seen the nifty fighter stands by DLD? They have a small
depression to hold a D6, so it won't fall over. My only problem is that they
hold 12mm D6's (judging from the picture), which means a pretty big stand for
a fighter. I am still meaning to try something similar for those really small
(6mm?) D6's. This would result in a smaller footprint which fits the fighters
better, and it adds some fog of war, as these D6's are pretty hard to read
from a distance.

I use a single fighter model on a hexagonal base. Glued to the base are two

end of the battle, the marks can be wiped clean.

When you've got dozens of fighter groups, it makes it much easier having the
information with the group, rather than trying to find the ship the group came
from (which also requires some sort of ID system
to be worked out - those icons on the ship diagrams also need a place
to write the fighter group ID).

I used to use pins, but that was too fiddly:

Roger the footprint issue. But as for Fog of War - given the sensors
needed
to find/range/hit ships in outer space - I think knowing how many
fighters are in a group closing to attack is reasonable. YMMV.

Gracias,

As a house rule, It required a sensor roll of 6 (current damage) to get the
actual number of fighters, but only a 5 to get the type. You know the fighters
are lurking because of the exhaust trails etc. but you really don't know. Of
course sending you fighters into theirs is another way to scout>
