New Confederate States Reveals Advanced Missile Types.

Dixie March 9, 2187

As reported by Moira Barnes, reporter, ISNS

Today the NCSN Bureau of Ordnance (BuOrd) released details of new missile
systems intended to better allow the NCSN to deal with increasing Kra'Vak
incursions into their territories. Dr.Linda T. Hymes reports: "With these new
weapons, which essentially build upon older systems, we have the capability
to, as it were, ‘Reach out and Touch' the enemy much easier than before." This
reporter was allowed to witness the demonstration of these newer, longer
ranged missile systems earlier today. The test bed vessel, Percheron IV,
launched a series of longer ranged salvo type missiles, as well as a flight of
long range heavy missiles, which totally destroyed a squadron of obsolete
hulks. It is apparently the intent of the NCSN to be able to attack Kra'Vak
ships at
much longer ranges, as to avoid their dangerous rail-gun systems. How
long it may take to integrate these weapons into the fleet remains to be seen.

Extreme range missile types.

The NCSN has developed a set of very long range missile systems, as to engage
Kra'Vak ships at much longer ranges. These weapons are rather large, so loads
are rather limited.

Long Lance Salvo Missile System (SML/LL)

The Long Lance missiles are based on the standard salvo missile design, but
much larger. After spending a great deal of time and money trying to develop a
more efficient engine for these, BuOrd decided to go with a simpler design,
which uses the same basic engines, but adds a booster stage to the missile to
extend the range. The missiles are quite large, limiting the number that might
be carried.

SML/LL

Mass per salvo: 5 Cost per salvo: 15 Range: 48 MU

The SML/LL is denoted on the SSD by an open arrowhead with a broad strip
across the middle.

Long Bow Long Range Heavy Missile

The LongBow missile is a larger, longer ranged version of the heavy missile.
Using the same basic concept as the Long Lance salvo missile, the LongBow adds
a booster to extend the endurance. The missile is a little slower than the
standard heavy missile, and also quite large, but with much greater endurance.

Long Bow

Mass per missile: 5 Cost per missile: 15 Endurance: 6 turns MD: 16 MU

A Long Bow missile is denoted by an open missile figure, with a broad stripe
across the middle.

Ok folks, I got myself a new set of asbestos underwear. Let fly!!

Seems that every space game has to have some version of the Japanese torpedo
from WWII.

Just a thought, since the are larger, they should be easier to hit with
fighters, Class1s and PDF.

And ScatterGuns? <G>

And, for the record, the Kra'Vak categorically deny any incursions into NCS
other than cultural exchange convoys and bookmobiles. Heh...

Yeah, and you see the damage a book can do at 5 kps!!!!

Regarding effects of point defense systems.

Effects of Point defense systems.

PDS

1-2 No effect
3-4 Kills one missile
5 Kills two missiles
6 Kill two missiles, plus re-roll

Class 1 beams

1-3 Miss
4-5 Kills one missile
6 Kills two missiles, plus re-roll

Scatterguns

Since SGs affect fighters same as SMLs, and the Long Lance is certainly still
smaller than a fighter, they have no additional effect on these missiles.

Sorry Kr'rt. 8^)
