Greetings, all!
I'm just starting in the game, and I am wondering where I can source some
smaller ship miniatures that will "blend in" properly with the AOG Centauri
ship models. I don't intend to actually use the B5 background - the AOG
minis are a good style match for a Kilrathi (Wing Commander) or Orion
(Weber/White) fleet.
Currently, all of the AOG minis are a good match for ships of the line, but I
don't see much there for escorts & cruisers. Ideas & helpful suggestions would
be much appreciated. Here's what I am currently looking at for equivalencies.
CV = Dargan CVA = SD = Octurian DN = Primus BB = Alterian BC = Vorchan CA = CE
= (? not sure this is the proper designation for an Escort Cruiser) CL = DD =
FF = Corv = (?) Rutarian Fighters Scout = (?) Medium Fighters Courier =
Fighters = GZG's "Kentauris" fighters
I may bump the Vorchan down to a CA, in which case the Alterian becomes a BC
and I'm stuck looking for something to fill the BB's slot.

There are several Epic 40K craft (Eldar I think) That look like they might
work.
Don't know there names off-hand. Some even have the hexagon patterning
that the Mograth and the Maximus. The size would make them suitable for FF,
DD, or CL.

Check out the Micro Machine Science Fiction toys from Galoob. They come three
to a pack, as cheap as $4 a pack. Take along an unpainted mini of the type you
currently have and eyeball the selection of Micros for good sizes. There's a
lot more than B5 toys, also Star Wars, Star Trek(all it's incarnations), and
generic sci-fi flavor stuff. You won't beat the price.
As I've mentioned before, Micro Machines space ships are often found in
close-out buyers, such as Toy Liquidators, Kay-Bee, and 1/2 Price stores
in Nebraska, USA, for less than three dollars, US. I'm up to about 25
Cardassians, and should be using John Fu's ship designs soon for a big
Dominion, without Jem' Hadars (curses), assault on a Fed Starbase.
As far as Centauri specific, I may be in a minority of one, but I think the
AOG Centauri fighters would be better used as DD to EC (or CE as you call 'em)
sized ships. In a similar 'crescent' mode are two sizes of Silent Death
fighters, of which I can't recall the names. Though they are supposed to fly
with the curve faced forward, painted, they can be ambiguous enough to fly the
other way.
However, the difference between styles from the Vor'chan and the Primus
suggests a wide variety of ships, tending toward baroque fixtures. I actually
see Games Workshop old Imperial 'Gothic' ships, though EVERYBODY that sees
them assumes them Eldar, would fit in rather well. Where they'd fit, I haven't
given much thought to.
Yes, Mark, I think Denis should be looking at the old QT/Citadel ships,
though with thoughts of variants that only 'suggest' the former ships. I'd
add some certain beetle-shaped ships (see parenthetical comment above).

I think some of the Silent Death miniatures would work. The Talon and Revenge
both have forward swept wings like some of the Centauri ships and would make
good escorts. I'll let someone else who knows the full Silent Death line
better than I do give more suggestions but some of their Kashmere may work
too.
Pics for a lot of these are available at Tom's Spaceship Miniature and Game

Thanks, Dean! Didn't have my browser list handy; bookmarks can be hard on a
machine so shared...
Anyway, Blood Hawk and Cresent (no c, I guess) are the two I was thinking.
Perhaps the AOG fighters should be down-graded from my previous note,
say, FF or smaller, with Cresents and Blood Hawks in the FF to CL range.
Well, time for another damn meeting. Tah.

Where are these designs?

They were posted on rec.games.miniatures.misc on September 19th. FT2.5 designs
for most Trek ships. I don't quite agree with all of the designsbut they are a
good start.

Before AOG came out with their line of ships, I used the Blood Hawks (in
backward-flying mode, I believe) to be Centauri cruisers. Since AOG's
line came out I use 'em for escort ships now (when I get to play, that is;)

A feeling I've known all too well this week. :-/

I have all the models but I forget some of the names so forgive me if I stuff
up a little. Basically Primus to Vorchan should all be moved down 1 rating. I
see the diffence between CE and CL as one of function and armament so you can
forget one. One of the models was called a destroyer on the box (the Alterian
I think, long thin one with a hook on it's nose) which might suit there or as
CL. That would really only leave small gaps. I'd be temped to "dress up"
Romulan ST models for the smaller stuff but that depends on how stead your
hands are and how bind you wish to go. Hope this helps.

Thought of a couple more:
Silent Death: Lance Electra (also works well as a Narn ship)
Talon
Vishnu - I'd add some vertical fins to this one
