Hey guys, I finally got around to taking advantage of the webspace my ISP
gives me.
I put together some pictures and background of the OUDF figures I use for
Stargrunt, along with my own interpretation of the Romanov Hegemony figures.

How many squads per platoon? What weapons? What specialists are included at
the platoon level?
You have a platoon that "specializes in urban combat"--a platoon is
rather a small unit for that sort of thing, especially if they're light
infantry. The preferred method for clearing a building involves blowing a hole
in through a wall, by preference with an assault gun or something similar, but
light infantry usually doesn't carry an assault gun around with them.
I take it that the RH clones are only figuratively Nikolai's
daughters--*I* sure wouldn't be cloning members of the royal family to
serve as combat troops (leaving aside the question of whether you couldn't
find better originals elsewhere). You have the heavy weapons clone represented
twice.
I notice that your bases are basically "flat plus flock." That has a stylized
look that some people like, but you might look at eg the the IF troopies I
posted last night. If you want to try texture, a little
plaster or drywall spackle will do nicely--don't use silicon RTV,
though, as you're likely to get lead rot. You'll probably want to add
a little brown/yellow paint (or whatever soil color you like) to the
plaster before you slap it on the base--that way, if you decide to
shape it, you won't be painting, then hacking it down to white, then
repainting, then chipping away more, etc (or doing what I did, which was say
"that's too thick...but it's taken me a month to get around to it so we'll
leave it as is")

I'll put that info up in my next update.

In the campaign we're playing, urban is a relative term. It mostly involves
clearing burned out, ruined buildings. The walkers also make excellent assault
gun platforms. They also can have various heavy weapons attached for those
purposes. I didn't go into that much detail because of the limited space.
Maybe a more detailed page for each platoon would be in order?
> I take it that the RH clones are only figuratively Nikolai's
Well, I actually have them as clones of the actual daughters... in my PSB
these clones have a genetic stamp that identifies them as such. Takes care of
pesky problems like having a clone take the throne.

I have two heavy weapons :-) Admittedly, I should add a second set of
text with the second photo.

I like your IF bases. I might try that on my next set. I still consider myself
a "beginner" when it comes to modelling and painting. I just try to make it
look good on the table.
Thanks for the input, I appreciate it.
G'day,

Another option is sprinkle some railway modellers ballast or sand or flock
over the base (with the odd small rock/bit of cork if you like), paint
over that with earth colour then add flock to that. I've found it to be the
simplest, cheapest and fastest way of getting this effect. See Derek's NSL by

You might want to look at some of the TOs listed at www.stargrunt.ca
or http://www.naxera.com/ted/misc/gzg.html for ideas

My UN troops are better, I'll post those later toni^h^h^h tomorrow.
(To put it more precisely--I'm posting pictures of the 10 minis I have
that look good, and we'll not bring up the subject of the *other*
200-300 wretched bits of lead I have. And the UN team was partly
painted by Stuart, which is why I can truthfully say they look good). I
painted the base and the washer, then put down a slightly watery mix of white
glue, then set the figures in model railroad ballast. That gives it texture
without making it look lumpy, the way the IF unfortunately do. That wasn't
quite enough to make it look finished, though, so I glued on some lichen
"bushes" and drybrushed them.

I use this stuff called Acrylic Gel Medium -- it's an actylic gel
(obviously) mixed with ground-up pumice stone. It comes in several
different textures, from fine to extra-coarse, and it's really easy to
work
with -- just spread it on and let it dry overnight, and there you go.
You can paint it however you like, and it takes paint very easily. You could
even mix paint with the medium before applying it to the figure, if you were
ambitious enough.

At some point Real Soon Now I'll write up Stuart's notes on how to paint figs.
The blue background, by the way, is a square of blue insulation board
about 1/2 inch past the figure on the right.
