Greetings all, A few weeks ago I attended the "Little Wars" con in suburban
Chicago. No GZG games, it's a historical convention, but I did find some
interesting stuff in the dealer's area. Regal Miniatures (1116 Broadway, Polk
City,IA 50226) distibutes
Gladiator Miniatures in the US. They have a very nice line of 1/300
scale grav armor called "Hard Kill". There are 26 vehicle packs based on 7 or
8 basic designs with 3 tanks or 4 lighter vehicles to a pack for $4.25. They
are well molded and would fit in easily with Irregular or Scotia vehicles.
They also have 3 types of infantry packs with 25 figures ( 5 to a strip
)
for $2.25, light infantry in greatcoats, heavy infantry in body armor, and
marine infantry in light power armor. I bought enough armor and troops for a
healthy Dirtside Battlegroup. Division After Division ( 16710 Bradbe Road,
Fisherville, KY 40023) distributes Chariot Miniatures in the US. They have a
small line of "Micro Space Ships". These ships looked good but were small
compared to the GZG line. The Alien ship types are based on asteroids, the
patrol ships are irregular ovals, the warships are triangular, the battleships
are "T" shaped. I bought 2 packs of "Patrol ships" at 2 for $2.00 and 2
"warships" at $3.00 each. They would make a nice system defence squadron for a
Belter colony! Division After Division also had the full line of 15mm Tabletop
Laser Burn figures. Are these figures usable for Stargrunt? Some of them
seemed rather too Gothic but I only saw the few painted figures he had on
display.

I remember these models. Why ? - because we made the masters for
them. IIRC we made three ranges of half-a-dozen models, one of
conventional 'human' ships, one of alien asteroid types and one of
humanoid delta-shaped ships (a bit in the style of a Star Destroyer
but they flew blunt end forwards - the engines were at the
pointy-end, for those who know their nautical terminology). The
models were fairly small, the largest ones were around FT heavy cruiser sized.
Chariot Miniatures produce them on behalf of another company (whose name I
can't recall at the moment) who originally commissioned the masters from us.
It's nice to know that someone likes what we've done.

where more models from the same designer can be found. There are no pictures
on the site apart from sketches and some CGI, although I should get some
photos up eventually. There are a couple of photos on Bill Armintrout's
miniatures page, however, along with a review:

I picked up a bunch of these from Ral Partha's discount boxes at GenCon a

me that none of them are designed for the "realistic" science-fiction
look. Some of the figures are carrying rifles and wearing stylized spacesuits
(sort of a Frank Kelly Freas design), but some of them are wearing cloaks and
carrying what looks like a powered spear.
Keep in mind that these were designed by Bryan Ansell in 1980 or 1981 (one
of the people who built Games Workshop during the 1980s) -- what you're
seeing are the precursors to the Citadel Miniatures designs.

I am curious as to why the 1/3000 is for the club members exclusively?
I'd be interested in picking some up, but have had some difficulty joining in
the past, and currently, their web page(your re-direct required some
tweaking) doesn't seem to have any info on joining at all.
I've tried, even though I'm in the US, because of the apparently impressive FT
support in Ragnarok, but it seems some folks are involved in a subtle form of
revenge against the wayward colonials. Not undeserved, mind you. But, as Tony
and Bill are getting along SO famously...

Making the FT / DSII stuff an SFSFW exclusive serves two
purposes: 1) it provides the SFSFW with another hook to draw in potential new
members, and 2) it effectively limits our customer base and thus reduces (yes,
reduces) our potential turnover (strange as it may seem, to us this is a Good
Thing). My two colleagues and I run
Brigade as a strictly part-time operation, we all have full-time jobs
and families that limit the time we can devote to the business. We simply
couldn't cope with the increase in business we'd get if we made the models
freely available.

The chap to contact is Simon Evans, 73, Avonleigh Road, Bedminster, Bristol,
England, BS3 3JA. I'm not sure what the current overseas subscription rates
are. The SFSFW web page did seem to be quite out of date the last time I
looked at it (admittedly some time ago).

Nothing personal, I assure you. I know the SFSFW has a fair number of
overseas (ie non-UK) members - we get orders from the US and other
places fairly frequently.
