Hey guys! I'm relatively new to Full Thrust (bought it Thursday), and I
was just wondering how many of you have run/participated/witnessed a
successful campaign game? I'm in the process of TRYING to run a Necromunda
campaign, but it's not working too well. Are FT gamers more reliable and
organized or is it just Idaho that's killing me? I absolutely LOVE Full
Thrust, and think that it has a great system for campaign games, but I don't
know if I want to commit myself to something
that won't get off the ground. Also, anyone had any luck in recreating the
Battle of Endor in FT? You know, hundreds of TIE Fighters swerving in and out
of the Rebel fleet, while the Imperials sit back and watch Calamari Cruisers
light up?
Ahh....
I love that scene!!!

Also, how about a recreation of the Battle of Yavin? Like 15-20 rebel
fighter squadrons vs 30-40 TIE squadrons? THAT would be fun...
BTW, are there any real good Star Wars FT conversion rules out there? I
saw some, but I didn't like them...
Thanks!

I haven't done that particular scene, but I have done some that rival it....
imagine 2 ISD, 2 VSD, 2 inderdictor Cruisers, 13 squadrons of tie
mixes vs. 4 moncal h/crs, 4 moncal l/crs, 4 correllian cruisers, 2
nebulon b's, 1 mod nebulon, 1 shuttle, 1 l. freighter, and about 14 squadrons
of the rebel mix of fighters.... what a show!

Who doesn't... That and the big battle around B5 are the two most beautiful
space battles I've ever seen. The Battle of the Line is a near
third. Come to think of it, howzabout us getting together a list of space
battles from all the movies we've seen, with approximate strengths
of participants, if possible, and how the battle could be represented in
FT (Like Battle of Yavin, which in FT should be much bigger). All I can come
up with are the SW battles, and some obscure thing
with a Really Huge (tm) ship fighting against goodie-goodie bounty
hunter/mercenary- people... In the beginning of the movie this ship
enslaves a planet, and to get the point across, snipers (!) fire at the crowd
standing on the streets of the capital, killing the girlfriend of the hero of
the movie (big surprise!). One of the bounty hunters is
cowboy-kind of guy, who collides with one of the engines of the giant
ship... Kinda vague, but it's been years and it wasn't a very good
movie...
Any others?

Hmm, wasn't that 'Battle Beyond the Stars'? It would be a great scenario
for using all sorts of out-of-scale figs to represent the various
personality mercenary ships.
Regards,
It has been far too long, but there were some battle scenes in the old TV
series, Battlestar Galactica. I can't remember if there were any large battles
or not.
Enjoy,

What's the Battle of the Line? [If this is a B5 thing, then no, I haven't seen
much B5. I'd like to, but I also want to see it more from the beginning...
that's the part that hurts.]
> Come to think of it, howzabout us getting together a list of
First thought: **Bigger?**
Second thought: Well, OK, so most of SW is fightercraft... but there were a
*lot* of Star Destroyers. [Of course, once Lucas gets done with the movie,
there'll be a bunch more MonCals, too... ILM is adding them in, kinda like
they're digitizing Jabba and adding a scene between him
and Solo in the first movie.... ^_^ ]
> All I can come up with are the SW battles, and some obscure
Y'know, I've got a feeling I've seen this too, but we're talking 10+
years ago here....
> Any others?
Well, the Last Starfighter doesn't work... a bit improbable even for Silent
death, I'd imagine. Can't think of any others, at least in filmed movies...
Anime, though, has a bunch, as GZG pointed out in More Thrust. Gunbuster isn't
that good for "organized" actions, as you never get a fleet composition for
the human forces and they tend to get their butts whupped good anyway. Haven't
seen LoGH, so I can't comment... oh, Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Er...
there are a bunch of battles with mecha, if you want to classify them in terms
of starships... which, for some of 'em, wouldn't be far off. One very nifty
scene, in Gundam 0083, had one of the big suits [can't recall the name, Gato's
I think, if you've seen it] fly up to a destroyer [the suit was considerably
bigger], plant its main cannon on the bridge, and fire. Very nifty
maneuver. ^_^
Er... other anime space battles... lessee... lots with mecha, of course. Fewer
with actual ships, or at least large numbers of ships... the end of Nadia had
a nice fight... Irresponsible Captain Tylor might have a few, but I doubt
it......... nope, coming up blank.
Alternate idea: anyone know some naval history? We could probably come up with
some good battles from WWII... anyone?
Yes, I must agree that Full Thrust is excellent. You ought to pick up More
Thrust as soon as you can.
Unfortunately, you're getting yourself into an amazingly addictive game.
;-)
It's my experience that campaigns are only as successful as the people playing
them. The rules might be great, but if all your gamin' buddies are flakes,
it'll never fly.

I've put together a scneario based on the "Severed Dreams" battle. It uses a
combination of my rules and rules by Mark Kochte.
You can find it at : http://www.uunet.ca/~jerry and following the
appropriate links.
Note: It's modified from the original scenario, for reasons given on the
web page. I won't say any more so I won't spoil the episode. (8-)

Has anyone worked out some of the battles from the Yamato series? Not
#1
or #2 where the battles are just silly. I remember some actual fleet
actions from the later movies/series, not 1 ship against the universe.
Too bad I no longer have copies (a 'friend' borrowed them and they
disappeared).

Oh, I bought Full Thrust AND More Thrust at the same time. I was amazed at how
easy the rules are. I learned the game in about 2 minutes. AMAZING!!!
Also, just how powerful are the Kra'Vak and Sa'Vasku?

Inspired by the SDF (I think that's what the Starship was called) in the
series Robotech, I've been toying with the idea of using Battletech miniatures
to represent Starships in Full Thrust. They would represent HUGE robots, the
Assault and Heavy 'Mechs representing Capital ships, Medium Mechs representing
Cruisers, and Light Mechs representing escorts. Then I'd use the plastic Space
Marine 6mm powered infantry from GW as Fighter Groups. Never actually
translated the thought from my head to the game though...

"Battle Beyond The Stars" The third, and by far the worst, movie based on the
same story, the others
being Kurosawa's classic "Seven Samurai", and the old pot-boiler western
"The Magnificent Seven".
OTOH although the movie as a whole is rancid, it has some excellent bits in:
Robert Vaughn (the man from UNCLE)'s portrayal of the
Fastest-Gun-In-The-West who's so darned TIRED of killing is pretty good.
The
guy who plays the leader of the A-Team, and that Polish detective's
portrayal of a genuine Earthman who's into bona-fide Earth History is
great.
But John-Boy Walton etc are ....forgettable.

Funny... I seem to have retained some vague recollection of Sybil Danning as a
Space Valkyrie....

Battle Beyond the Stars. And he gets another Girlfreind before the end.
Eeek! I remembered it.
> Any others?
The Star Trek ones tend to be one V one. Try 'The Wrath of Khan', with a Light
Cruiser Vs a Heavy Cruiser, But the Heavy Cruiser cann't manouver or fire
untill after the Light Cruiser has either passed it or fired upon it. (Or the
second encounter, with the heavy cruiser already badly damaged)
Three Klingon Cruisers V a battledreadnaught with a SMNC?
The Defiant (An advanced Heavy Cruiser?) vs an upgraded Excelsior class
battlecruiser.
Unfortunately, most ST battles end with an incredablt cheezy 'look what I just
invented' kind of ending, where the heroes suddenly discover some crippling
weakness in the enemy in the last five minutes of the program.

I usually attribute good ideas to their originator. Unfortunately this time I
have to attribute this good idea to a group of 13 year old GW groupies!
Have you ever seen HOTT? This has an incredibly simple campaign system. These
lads were using this system to simulate STAR SYSTEMS. So the map would look
something like this in a three player campaign;
1
/ \
/ \
1 1
/ \ / \
/ \ / \
2 1 3
/ \ / \ / \
/ \ / \ / \
2--------- 2 ------- 3 -------- 3
You can only attack down the lines. Battles are fought in a star system. The
winner takes the system. Each system provides some income to produce more
ships, with the 'Home Systems' producing most, and the center system producing
least.

DAMN powerful. Both will run rings round regular ships, and while your shields
may protect you from the Sa'Vasku (for a while), the Kra'Vak will slice you to
shreads.

... I tend to call them "battles" only when there are several sjships
involved, anyway. One-on-one is just that.

Or they invent a new, nifty manouver (sp?), which usually consists of
something as radical as moving your ship in the battle (the "Picard
Manouver"), or taking enemy's movement in account when shooting at them (the
"Riker Manouver?")... Brilliant... Not.

I've seen the Legend of the Galactic Heroes movie and if you like battles
involving thousands of ships on each side fighting, then watch this movie if
you get the chance. I also recommend it for people who like 3D space battles
as the ships have shields only to the front and are vulnerable to attacks from
other directions.
If people are interested I can give you specific Yamato movies to watch for
good space battles. The Final Yamato movie has an interesting scene where the
Yamato goes into a barrel roll and flies through the enemy fleet, firing its
cannon and destroying ship after ship.
