Hello All:

In oder to avoid all the confusion I got myself into at last year's Gen Con,
I've really decided to start to prepare now so I don't anger my players by not
being prepared. While going through a short list of what I would need to play
my B5 Severed Dreams scenario, I had an epithany regarding fighter stands.
Those little tripods that pizza places put in their carry-out
boxes to keep the pie from being crushed would make fantastic fighter stands.
Just turn it upside down and gule the fighter mini to the top of
the one of the legs. You can cut the legs at various heights and/or
glue a heavy washer to the bottom places use to make it harder to accidently
flip over. Since I don't know anyone in the resturant business, I was
wondering if anyone could give me a source for these tripods.

Later,

I have used the pizza protectors for big ships where I didn't want to drill
holes. Not sure where to buy them, but you might just want to call or stop by
your local pizza place. As of late, I have been making new fighter stands as
well. I started to mount some of the larger ones on thin nails with a fat
head. The nail head fits perfectly in a small washer and with some epoxy you
have a sturdy base.

I've collected a bunch of them as I plan to use them for stands with some of
the larger Starfleet Wars minis that I don't want to permanently mount on a
stand. There are several different versions of these tripods as every pizza
delivery place seems to use a different one. The larger ones wouldn't work
that well for the fighter stands but the smaller ones would. I've also seen
them use the other way, with the legs down and six fighters glued on top of
the table part.

So my suggestion is order delivered pizza once and a while (which many people
already do) and keep notes on what kind of tripod they use. Once you have
sampled several of them (and gained a few pounds) you should have an idea on
which pizza comes with the tripod that would work best for you. Then I'd stop
by that pizza place and ask for a bunch (maybe order a pie
to-go too). You can use the excuse that your wife/girlfriend/etc needs
them for some crafty stuff she is doing if they ask for why. Unless they are
very uptight, you should be able to talk them out of a handful or two.

Mark, Another idea is to go to the local college (should be easy from your
E-mail address). If there is a dorm room or student union. Ask
permission to collect the "pizza spiders". Then put up a posterboard and a
bucket/bag/waste can to collect the spiders. If your campus was like
mine, it should only take a week or two to collect all of them that you need.
