Hey guys,
I am about to start painting another batch of figs for SG2 and I need some
ideas for a good camo pattern. I had one...but then I used that pattern for
some ork elite. A rare unit let me tell you! And well deserving of a nice
camo pattern. ;-)
Anyway what I need are web links to sites that have good illustrations of
various real life camo patterns or pics of 25mm figs with camo patterns.
Thanks in advance, R. Scott Clinton

Pretty decent website - lots of scanned pics of real-world camo,
organized mostly by country.
Also, check your local library for "Brassey's Book of Camoflauge", Brassey's
1996. (ISBN 1857531647) It's got some great colour plates of camo historical &
present. Of course, the copy I *finally* got through
interlibrary loan had had some goon go through it with a razor - a third
of the plates & several pages were missing!
People like that should be executed. Publicly. Messily. (Pardon me -
just a pet peeve. I work for the local public library...)
Oh, and if you're looking for something to really, really inspire your
modelling, point your browser to <http://www.ghillie.com>. Very cool!
Finally, take a good look at the cover of SG2. The PA there has a very
cool camo scheme - very nice painting.
Hope these help,

:-) Thanks, already done. One of my Orc Elite (YES they exist!)
snipers has a ghillie suit made out of gauze and flock. Looks pretty good if I
say so myself.

Thanks for the link, it is a very good resource.
The DP9 pod people have done up some camouflage patterns for their Heavy
Gear game at http://www.dp9.com/Funhouse/camo/camoindex.html A few seem
to be based off of RL camo schemes..

Here in the UK, the softback edition of Brassey's has been appearing at
clearance sale prices at a few places over the last few months. Advice to UK
listers is grab a copy if you see it!

One key question on Camo Ideas. What kind of planet are they going to? Even on
Earth camo needs to vary between jungle and temperate forest, winter and
summer. To bad you can not paint the pattern used by Predator now that is
sci-fi camo. The best camo uses the color of the enviroment thay are
going to so you have worlds of choices.

(3/4 of my painted 6mm infantry are GW Orks, funny thing about the
way they sculpted the faces on those, the eye sockets are deep enough that you
can paint the eyes red, the faces green and get the eyes showing through as
red; a great way to impress people who don't know how easy 6mm is to paint).

Oh yes that is true...but who what's to repaint their minis for every battle!
;-)
No, I think I will just stick with a 'believable' camo pattern. Those by
default mean shades of green, tan, brown or gray. Anything else will look
kinda out of place next to the lichen ;-)

Then the real questions are what color is the table you play on most often and
how much lichen you want to glue to the figure.

I am thinking very hard about producing some red and purple gaming terrain
with some very wild-looking "tree" and "shrub" analogs and then painting
some of my figs in a red and purple camo pattern to go with them. It may or
may not make any actual scientific sense, but I think it will at least look
like the troops are fighting on an alien world.

How about a dry world with a high Iron and cobalt content in the sand and
rocks. Makes for some very nice reds and blues.

A damn fine idea. If you're providing the terrain, your troops fit it. Who's
to say that other worlds all have terrain the same colour?

I had a game of DS2 at GZG-ECC II that was set on the moon.
One side had a high-contrast Black on Lt. Grey camo "Mountain Stone"
(see
http://members.xoom.com/rlyehable/ds2/) for one side and a 4 tone
greyscale dot pattern for the other side. I received a lot of nice comments.
