For some "good read" books, try

The First Casualty and Price of Peace

I liked First Casualty and am working through Price of Peace.

They have some great descriptions of FT-ish (in my mind) space battles
and some ground combat which is SG2 or DS2 esque (in a vaccuum atmosphere
yet...). They also give you a perspective on what campaign FT might be like on
a contested world.
