GZG might want to change its name.

"Ground Zero" now has some very new connotations.

Yes, it would be unfair, costly etc. But it would prevent

And I suppose any business who has the words "world" or "trade" in their name
should change it too? E

Now come on lets not go down this road.

I refuse to change any more of my world. What's the point of fighting for what
we have if we have to change it every time someone tries to bully us.

I was 3 city blocks when the first tower fell. I was a LOT farther away when
the second one fell. I will be damned if I ask anyone else to retreat even one
step further. The name should stand, just so that when the ignorant claim bad
taste we can explain that "It's not bad taste, it's Free Speech, and

refusal to give in to animals who would destroy rather than build.' Sorry if
this sounds belligerent, that tone really isn't intended. But I

think it will be a while before I'm up to using a smiley.

No, it doesn't. "Ground Zero" was originally the center point of a nuclear
explosion, remember.

I've never known the ignorant to be swayed by reality.

Just out of curiosity, what did you think "ground zero" meant? (I do

My bit was only the part that said:

I realize that, but the "place where massive destruction hit" is
within the original meaning--it's nothing new.

And if you called it Happy Puppy Games, I'll bet you could still find
someone who would be offended. :-\

Sorry for being so blunt but could the person who suggested the name change
get a life. A lot of people I know are about to go through a name change to
keep terrorists happy. But it wont. It will just take something from the
decent people. So as someone else on the list said changing only lets them see
their tactics worked.

now if you don't mind I will get down of this soapbox and go back to lurking
in the corner.

With respect, it's only a name. If finding himself with an unexpectedly
tasteless name dramatically affected JMT's bottom line... the name would have
to go. Pleasing your customers does not equate to the appeasement of
terrorism, it's a livelihood. It pays the mortgage.

> I say keep the name.

I don't there's even the slightest prospect that the name JMT trades under
will offend anybody from his prospective or current
customer base. I think it's a complete non-issue.

Alan,
we've been friends for nearly 20 years now - this will be the
first time I've said this: ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND! in my own pityable
.opinion any such change would represent a slap in the face to any of us that
try to maintain a semblance of reality while madman attack our ways of life. I
feel that the use of Ground Zero is not in poor taste nor reflects or
represents
anything other than a name - no more, no less.
The terrorist action in the US was the most far reaching incident in my
short life - I do not wish to let is destroy or affect my life any
further
than it has - You and I live nearly 1/2 a world away and we both were
floored by what happened, but everyone needs to keep their perspective and
push on - (I'll avoid the winning/losing references).

Some would say that that proves his point.(Sorry, I can't bring myself to
smiley back yet, I guess I'm not up to that yet. Give me time though.)

May I say to all who replied to my question how much I appreciate your
forebearance at such a time in vehemently disagreeing? Not one post has
been ill-mannered, at worst a little forthright (which Australians tend
to appreciate rather than resent).

Typical example: Aussie #1 "You're so full of shit on this one, you need a
dunny(toilet) roll to blow your nose. You couldn't find your arse with both
hands, map, compass, native guide and a bloody GPS system." Aussie #2 "Don't
hold back mate, tell me what you really think."

Well, the original connotations of "Ground Zero" are even worse (apologies!)
than the new ones.

And the finicky peaceniks will object to any kind of wargame at all.

have had to rebound from reported 'hate' crimes like attempts to firebomb a
mosque in Australia (per BBC), a death threat to the local Islamic elementary
school (I am ashamed of our crazies sometimes more then others), and a Sikh

the article I was scanning at work). Hatred and fear are so easy to stir and
so hard to control. Some of the things I usually complain about don't seem so
important this week.

3)Well, we could change it to Gravity Zero games... Only kidding!
