From the latest David Drake newsletter. This is exceedingly cool news.
Another thing planned for the CD [included with the 3rd
Leary/Mundy novel in hardback] is portions of the Hammer's Slammers
miniature wargame book which will (we hope) be coming out later in the year
from Pireme Publications in Britain. As well as the first troop figurines,
I've now received prototypes of a tank with both normal
(one-man) and command turrets, and also a combat car. These are in
resin, made by Old Crow, and will have metal parts (tribarrels and suchlike)
by GZG who's making the figures. The day job of the guy running Old Crow is to
make miniature
movie sets and architects' models. To say that these are good--even in
the white, completely unfinished--is like saying Robert Heinlein was a
good SF writer. I'm more pleased than I can put in words. There'll be some
pictures on the CD, probably in rough paint jobs (the sort of thing a wargamer
would provide for his units) and the text of the game book. The bulk of the
illustrations probably won't be included because they simply won't be finished
in time. To make up for the limited art, John Treadaway (who's doing the
book's graphics) may be
able to include lots of background information for which there won't be room
in the printed version.
I want that CD. I want that tank. I wont be able to afford either. Arrrrrgh.
Why is life so cruel...

Pics of the cover and some minis. The minis all look to be 15mm.

Nope, they're 25mm - the figs are ours, already available via the
webstore, and the vehicles are by Old Crow (out soon, with crew figures and
tribarrels from us)!

I saw the prototypes of the tank and combat car on Jez's stand at Salute
- very nice ! Any possibility that they or the figures might be
available in 15mm one day (or 6mm for that matter)?
If you get on the band wagon, Jon has promised to do convert the 25mm HS
figs to 15mm if he gets enough pre-orders. I think we needed another 32
packs or so to get the HS figures in the queue.
This is what people have so far said they'd buy re: the 15mm
"possibles"....
Current counts as of morning of 21st Feb......
Islamic Fed: 19 packs
Scanfed: 12 packs
Slammers: 28 packs
OUDF: 10 packs
Phalons: 6 packs
If/when any of these hit 60 packs, we promise to make them....
And yes, I AM keeping track of who has asked for what, and how many, so
please DON'T ask for them unless you genuinely intend to buy them....

You're missing some!!! The Phalons are way more than 6. I can't remember what
the total was, but it was closer to 30. I remember that it was close, if not
over, half way there.
Anyone have a current total for the "Possible 15's" (P15) list?
I'd be interested in seeing how close some of them were getting to being added
to the manufacturing queue.

I would certainly LOVE to buy HS figs in 15mm. In fact, I think that the scale
it should have been made in the first place. 25mm is great for
infantry-centered games, but HS seems to depend more on vehicles than
ground ponders; a scale that 15mm is best suited for. Heck, I'll by both types
so I can have a little of each.
However, the real question is if Old Crow would be willing sculpt and sell
15mm blower tanks and combat cars?
