Thanks for the great whopping pile of suggestions folks. Some really good ones
there. I'm gonna try (attempt 1.0) the solution with ribbon cable as it will
give nearly the perfect look when painted. If I can cut a strip about
1-2mm wide and fairly regular, I'll be able to use it as link belt. A
good paint job, and it'll be awesome I think.

The only one that perplexed me was 3 pennies as a tree base.... The trees are
6" tall and about 1" across at the base... that'd be kind of a feat to get on
one penny, or even three. It'd also be tippy. I'd think anyrate.

I'm gonna try to find some fender washers. The idea of getting steel washers
is good... magnetic to prevent tipovers seems right... if I can find magstrip.

Oooo! Oooo! I can help you with this, too!

How thick do you want the stuff? If you want strips, you can buy it at craft
stores. Michael's, White Rose, Lewiscraft here in Ontario all sell it. Oh, and
Wal-Mart! It's pretty cheap.

If you want sheets, I've only seen the huge sheets in a miniatures store. But,
you can get credit card size sheets at Business Depot. I think you might be
able to get the big sheets from them, too.

I ended up having trouble with that myself. At first, I was thinking old
British pennies, then noticed something about Canadian dollars. ;->=

I'd think three pennies in a triangle MIGHT work with a lot of buildup around
them, but I'd say one of the wanking big washers would be a definite go.

(You know, my girlfriend, a wee bit more matured than I, used the term
'wanker' around some Indian(subcontinent kind) resident alien programmers.
They were SHOCKED; 'Oh, no, you don't mean to say that...'

They didn't realize she could use American equivalents with equal apolomb.)

At the size of a quarter or better, you'll finally find it more financially
sound.

I missed the one about ribbon cable. You're right, sounds AWESOME!

The Canadian dollar is not "yet" that worthless!

You should be able to get it at sign shops. Magnetic signs for vehicles, you
know.

Caveat: in my former job I sold to sign shops, and for some of their stuff
they just added a zero to their cost to determine their sell
price...

Yeah, we all know that kind of shop, don't we ? - And not just selling
car signs.
