Alan's comments about the 'dark side' of my beloved old SPI rules was dead on
target. That said, I haven't had any trouble understanding rules for DS2 and
while initially it took a few minutes to find things when I was 'playing in my
mind (as opposed to on the table)' it never was as much trouble as DBR...
Maybe that's why I never picked up DBM.

Joe, Perhaps you should come up with some real life incidents and forward them
to GZG. Constructive critiques never hurt. And there may
be some better way to do something. Or you could just strong-arm Alan
into writing that index. 8^)

Mind you it doesn't hurt that the OU seems to claim buoys that were probably
put there by the Illuminati. More surprising is the fact the Illuminati
haven't corrected this behaviour, wonder what they're getting

out of it...;)

True enough. Our sheets were mostly the key tables and some short snippets of
rules. Keeping the reference on the entries just never occurred to me 'cause
the rulebook itself is always laying right next to

it... but it sure would save time when we do have to look something up.

> I must say the idea of such organization for the DSII and SGII

Similar experience with Dirtside. We also like the reference sheets cause we
do not play as regularly as we would like, and it it allows us to forego the
effort to memorize in detail and just relax and have fun.

> A one-page description/flowchart with references for more details is

I agree on both counts. One page is great - not too much detail, but
enough to be useful. And page 17 does stand out in the midst of the rest

of the well contrived rules as something that seemed like "oh, no, we forgot
to..."

> It's unfortunate that such thresholds usually mean someone simply

I think it is an issue of the writing process. From experience when a group of
us tried to collaborate on some rules many years ago much of the content flow
was determined as things came to mind. Perhaps the items were related, perhaps
they weren't. Later revisions would tend to adjust the latter but would have
trouble with moving the former. But then

again that could have just been us:)

That sounds like a great figure for a Brin fan and someone that paints 25mm

G'day Mike,

Unless of course they're paced out by me (5'6") and then Derek (6'2") tries to
follow the instructions (we were doing a treasure hunt for the
kids)...
the results were so off I started thinking about doing an SG scenario where
the untrained militia had to find the cache of weapons before the bad guys got
there;)

Also...

Both standard range and extended range salvos have one turn of endurance under
the standard rules.

Beth,

You are correct. It's on page 12 of the Fleet Book in the section labelled
"Summary of Weapon Systems and Effects". Incidently, I stumbled across your
web site the other day. LOVED picture of the Jeanne d'Arc. What a wonderful
paint job.
