Flagship Games, creator of "Mecha" is apparently selling a new 25mm SF
skirmish game called "Omega Warrior".

OW appears to be very much in the Starship Toopers vein, with REALLY
powerful Powered Armor -- the typical battle seems to have no more than
two or three PA suits on a side. In one of the battle reports upon their page,
a 4 man squad of PA wipes out an 18 regular infantry without working up a
sweat. There are not going to be dedicated figures as far as I can tell, but
they say that it can be used with any SF miniatures in existence. As a matter
of fact, the battle that I mentioned above uses (and gives proper
credit to) GZG figures -- NSL PA vs. NAC regulars. It looks
interesting, but I've never heard of it before.
They are also working on a generic space combat game called Starship! and they
will produce miniatures for it. They are claiming that it will be a true 3D
environment, using their "Battlepoles". I suspect that ships will
be resin, and a bit too big for FT, but you never know -- the pictures
seem to bear this out, though.

Well, I was in one of the 'Starship' games last month. The ships come in sizes
'by the inch', so any ship can be used simply by measuring the length. The
prototypes are scratchbuilt and measure 1'' to 5' in length.
I was able to convince the authors to change some of the procedures to speed
and simplify play. Some changes will also be made in the processes of
targeting and weapons effects.
More weapons types are available for the game the are in FT, they are more
detailed and the effects of targeting and firing
are more complex than FT. The system is more akin to the
Japanese 'Yamato' and other cartoon Sci=Fi programs.
I have not tried the system since the revisions.
Bye for now,

I noticed the site's blurb mentioned an 'anime' feel; I
still am not sure what that means in rules. ;->=
I did notice several of the ships looked very close to the Starblazer's look
(the common name in the US). May fit with the many small Bandai ships I have.
Certainly better than the Musashi ones, though I've plenty of those for fleets
with smaller scales.
Speaking of scales, you must realize there's more than just the problem of
shako's making 'top of head' difficult to measure. In past ages, 6' tall was
not as common as currently, in some parts of the world. And, the Space Marines
were supposed to be towering monsters, in the old sense.
Then the company made 'standard humans' about as tall.
Scale gets nastily bent in some sculptors' hands. Still, it is a useful
guideline, if not a dependable one.

Does this mean they're making their Battlepoles again? I wonder if they're the
original clear acrylic type (which I have been trying to get hold of for
years) or the newer, opaque type.

Any plastics place should have acrylic rods, tubes, and glue--you should
be able to make these things yourself without a great deal of difficulty. Look
up "Plastics" in the Yellow Pages. Any city should have at least one
distributor in it.
