G'day guys,
As Christmas approaches I face the annual battle of trying to decide what I
should subtly hint about from the vast list of figs I would enjoy having;)
So this year I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the Vor shard
miniatures, Kryomek, or the Dirz tigers from Confrontation. They all look like
prime alien material to me. If any kind soul could let me know what they think
and any reports good or bad on the companies that sell them I'd be might
appreciative.
Thanks

For me, it's Vendel -- http://www.vendelminiatures.co.uk/ -- love those
Goblins of theirs. But I'm telling myself to be more reasonable this
year....

I've got me a bunch of the Kryomek figures -- they were released pretty
much simultaneously in the U.S. by both Grenadier and Stone Mountain
Miniatures, and I've never quite been able to figure out how *that* worked.
Now Simtac carries the line, and they've added a bunch of things to it,
and....
Anyway.
The Kryomeks themselves are nicely sculpted, and 28mmish in scale. Most of the
figures are much bigger than human beings, and even the smalled
minis --
the "Hellions" -- are about 6 feet long in scale. The biggest ones are
*real* big, maybe 40mm to 50mm tall?
A lot of the figures have arms or heads cast separately from the body, but the
fit tends to be very good. At least, I don't recall any problems in
assembly. The resin vehicles are cool, and have lots of nice texture for the
drybrushing fans out there.
Um. What other kind of stuff do you want to know? Like I say, I have a
small ton of 'em in a box somewhere.
G'day,

Derek is gonna love you for pointing me toward even more dwarves;)

Do you reckon the Heloins would look best vs GZG humans? I was aiming to get
them first at any rate.

What do the vehicles actually look like?

I take it the Kryomek infantry (for want of a better term) come up pretty nice
without too much effort? The picks of seen make them look like they would be a
breeze to paint.
Apart from that I think you pretty much answered what I was after for the
Kryomek.
Thanks
Greetings!
I have personal experience with the Shard range from VOR. They are 28mm. IMHO
they are quite nice looking, all my figs were of clean sculpts. The earlier
minis were made of metal that seemed to be a bit harder than the current one.
While the game is in unknown status, the
figs are still produced by Ral Partha Europe - excellent service, and
now the catalogue has pictures for all items listed. From my experience I
would highly recommend them. And their background is nice too...
Dirz Tigers - I bought some for one of our gamers. Excellent sculpts,
but only 3 type of the tigers if my memory serves me right. They are more in
the 30 mm range. Check out the Rackham site.
I hope this helps,
Greetings,

Sorry, off the top of my head before peeling off to work:
Kryomek's aliens tend to be a bit static (mine are old; there may be newer
moulds) for my taste. Put in a line, they remind me of a congo line or figures
painted around a vase. I don't recall which are the hellions, but if their the
smaller ones, they'll fit well with 25mm. The warriors tend to
tower over non-'heroic', and even some of them.
I don't have any Shard other than the cast resins out of the box set, but the
Growlers and Zhykee I have are detailed and animated, and definitely alien
feeling. Comparing to a certain evil empire(TM), the Zhykee are an elder race
that look far different than humans with Spock ears, and a friend thinks the
Growlers are more what they had in mind for a certain race of green fellows.
With three little 'uns in the house, I'm certain you're seeing plenty of
unnamed little plastic knock-offs of the 'cheap and cheerful' variety.
I really must thank Jon for introducing me to that phrase...

They'd work pretty well, I think. They're big and bulky in comparison to true
25mm figures, but that would be all to the best when it comes to looking
imposing. Being little more than ambulatory mouths, they'll need all the help
that they can get....

There are four different types: APC, Tank, mobile artillery piece, and Missile
Tank. And two different styles of each one: Grav, and Tracked.
I've got the tracked stuff, but the differences are minor at best. They're all
about 5 inches long, and have a reasonably nice organic look to them
G'day guys,
Thanks for all the figure info!
Cheers
