A couple of questions:
1) Last year at Bifrost ('99) I bought a load of what were called
'em-bug's,
bearing absolutely no similarity to the Starship Troopers (film) bugs at all
*ahem*. Since I got these from the GZG stall I assumed that the 'e' stood for
Eureka but I can't find these on his site, does anyone know where I can get
more or will there be some at Bifrost this year? I mean 25mm and don't mean
either of the 3 bugs in the GZG catalogue
2) I am informed that at a convention last weekend (in the UK) there was a
game using these bug figures (possibly) and also using at least one big tanker
bug, anyone know where the big bug came from?

Yes, the "EM" is because they are Eureka Miniatures. We'll have more of them
at Bifrost, so come and see us there. I think Eureka has them listed as the
"Chaos Chicken"!
> I mean 25mm and don't mean either of the 3 bugs in the GZG catalogue
I think it is probably one of the Micro Machine Action Fleet plastics. You can
still find a few of these around Toys R Us or some of the cheap clearance
shops.
G'day guys,
> Yes, the "EM" is because they are Eureka Miniatures.
Be warned the chickens can be hard to get hold of as Nic as has to becareful
about what they don't look like. So you need to call them by name (and
preferably have a reference) when you order them.

There's also a couple of plastic kits of rhino and scarab beetles that work
well as they're about 20cm long and 6cm high and look very "big and mean" next
to 25mm figs (even meaner next to 15mm).
Cheers
Beth
G'day again,
By the way, given the figs being discussed, now would probably a good time to
admit to having a website with a gallery its at
http://www.users.bigpond.com/derekfulton/
I'm sorry if its slow sometimes, telestra gets overloaded about lunchtime
Aussie time everyday, but it was free!
Cheers
Beth
I like those tripods and bugs!

Nice images, Beth!
That not-bug bug looks... pretty good! I wonder how many not-bugs you'd
need to have a half decent SG2 game. I think my NSL infantry would look good
beside them (under them?).
Good looking Martian tripods, too. Nice site, Beth and Derek!

now that you all mention it, i am a few weeks away from ordering some bugs
for DS2. i noticed that the GZG catalog has DSM-130 Bugs (12/pack). is
there any other arachnid-type mini for 6mm??? i'm especially interested
in tanker bugs, hopper (flying) bugs, etc. i thought about sculpting some of
these myself, but folks would probably laugh themselves to death when they saw
them....
thanks, dave

Pendraken do a sci-fi aliens and bugs range.
Their figures are 10mm but you probably don't want tiny bugs.
Have a look for yourself.

One question, are the Darleks 6mm? if so, how did you make them?

Depressing is what it is. I'm going to have to repaint the IF Navy just to
keep them from getting an inferiority complex due to looking at the
Jeanne D'Arc :-)
From: "Charles Stanley Taylor" <charles.taylor@cableol.co.uk>

They're Irregular's "War Robots" if memory serves.
G'day Charles,

Thanks.

They're Irregular Miniatures "Attack Robots" which I buy off Nic at Eureka (2
for 55c Aussie or something like that). The heavies I built by lopping of the
Dalek "nose, gun and sink plunger" and putting on a bit of brass rod instead,
but you can buy heavies now too (I just haven't got around to it yet). The
emperor, special, engineering and suicide Daleks were also made from normal
stock by judicious use of "modellers tubing" and small pieces of plastic disc.
The marine Daleks I made from scratch though using brass rod and small beads
(cheapest gaming figures ever at 5c a pop!). All up not too much extra effort
needed and they're heaps of fun to play. The additional fun thing being you
can justifiably lob the odd nuke, I don't do it ever game but the odd one to
keep them on their toes is fun;) A more useful tactic for armies built around
a small number of superior tech vehicles and heaps of infantry is artillery
dropped minefields, VERY useful!

G'day Laserlight,

After your comments about painting speed is it a sound idea to have them
all in dry-dock for such an extended period of time? ;)
> just to keep them from getting
I don't know subtle can be better... I've had at least one gentleman on this
list suggest he'd probably have to wear sunglasses if flying against my fleet,
sad way to lose an opponent;)
Have fun
Beth
> G'day Laserlight,
Mostly it's the "getting around to it" that takes a while. You can spray them
with a gold base coat and a teal top coat pretty quickly, and I haven't had
any good ideas on detailing them beyond that aside from doing the ship names
in Arabic script on the hull. That will take a while longer, I concede.
