My 15mm Panzergrenadiers were even less happy with me than the rest of my
minis, and I'd gotten to the point where another round of paint
would mean I'd have to invent stats for Sta-Puft Marshmallow Armor.
So I invested about $1.70 for Pine Sol (actually the Kroger generic
equivalent), poured some into a small glass jar, added the two squads (which
had one layer of Krylon plus, ah, an unspecified amount of acrylic paint) and
a couple of IF ships which didn't look right (three layers of spray enamel),
put the top on and set it aside. After about siz hours, I fished everything
out, put it in the sink (yes, the strainer *was* in first) and sprayed
lavishly with hot water, and did a little work with an old toothbrush. The DDH
paint is a bit gummy and will need a more soaking but everything else is now
bare metal, for about 5 minutes work. It was so easy that I'm tempted to dump
the rest of my IF fleet in too.
I have used PineSol for plastics, but if they are metal miniatures I'd go with
something stronger. I use paint remover bought in a spray can from WalMart or
the like. Fast and very clean. No need for a toothbrush with
this stuff - five minute - rinse - and you have no paint on the mini nor
glue so watch for small parts.
Since you mentioned IF ships, what do you think of them? I have seen the pics
and they looked good. I will be sending Jon *yet* another order very soon and
I'm tempted to get a few. I have very complete fleets for the Sa'Vasku, NSL,
NAC, Krac', FSE, ESU, Oceanics (very small fleet,) and working on the UNSC. Do
you like the IF designs?

Did you notice I bought them as soon as Jon announced them (or, in the case of
the SDN, before Jon announced them)?

I suppose you could say that...<g> Islamic Fed was my main fleet well
before Jon has minis to go with them--I've been harassing him about
once a month for the last 2 years or so to design more IF ships...
Pine sol works fine for metal it just takes longer... But I have heard from
some people that certain plastics don't do well if you leave them overnight...
Like pearls, they can turn into 'mush' if soaked long enough...

Believe it or not, mister "What's an ecology" (me) tries to avoid using
anything in a spray can that is flammable, toxic, etc. When overnight in pine
sol will do the job, I much prefer that to discovering the latest oven
cleaner, etc. causes an Asthma attack. I don't look good when I am purple or
gray (done both, shudder).

Not that sniffing Pine Sol is a bright idea either
Verdad!
