Hah! Shows how much YOU know about marriage! Married men are MUCH more adept
at guile, stealth, and subterfuge (these are necessary survival traits). Not
to mention the cultivation of creative stupidity: "I forgot to take the
garbage out AGAIN? Boy, am I stupid or what?"

IMHO, bachelors make better Starship Commanders. Case in point:

Picard: No wife.
Kirk: No wife (but many trists with alien six kittens in Go-Go
boots and Maud bikinis). Sheridan: Widower (well...kinda. Anna took an
extensive vacation on Za'Ha Dum).

When the honeymoon is over, your tactical edge is gone. You are too busy
mowing the lawn, going to the market for milk, and other husbandly duties to
defend the galaxy from alien invasion. (HEY!!! That gives me an idea to defeat
the Kra'Vak: MAIL ORDER BRIDES). YOUR FULL THRUST DAYS ARE OVER!!!

But seriously, congrats Jerry!!! I hope you and your
bride-to-be have
many happy years together.

Thanks to everybody's well wishes. The day itself is about two years hence, so
I have plenty of time to prepare myself.

Besides, I'm not dying, I'm only getting married. (8-)

Can I get back to the controls of the Starship? PLEASE? (8-)

I side w/Alan here (being a married man of 10 years) and would like
to add that when you have KIDS you also add the skills of bribery,
reverse psychology, bluffing, and making secret codes!!!!! ;-)

What a great thread in the FT Mailing list! I'll add a third vote to this
tally. (14 years of married life)

I wouldn't want to cross swords with us married guys over a "Diplomacy" board.
Mike and Allan would be the first I'd want to ally with and the first I'd want
to backstab.....;)

What is really great is when I'm in deep thought over how to deal with an
opponent's heavy fighter arsenal or which star system to engage with my
squadrons in a FT campaign game, my wife will ask,

"What are you thinking about?"

"Oh, nothing. We really should get the driveway sealed this fall."

Old age and guile will always beat youth and skill.

Damn. I should learn how to do that.

(Carol gets this greatest look when I tell her I'm contemplating how to
effectively use my beam weapons. Though, for better or worse, I think she's
actually accepting the fact that her fiance is weird.

I know this is not the guide to marriage page but it is good to see the

same techniques in 'mawwiage' the world over. But as every good gamer knows
good tactics know no borders! Funny thing is as Mike Wikan put it

"I forgot to take the garbage out AGAIN? Boy, am I stupid or what?" Quess what
I forgot the this morning!? Oh well more crawling if I'm to be allowed out to
play FT this week.

Not to mention our negotiating skills! Married men can avoid battle more so
then single men by the memorizing and application of two simple phrases:

"...yes dear ..."

" ... oops! ... My fault! ... "

:D

That's quite true. Mind you, I'm a transplanted Scot but the same techniques
seem to work just as well when your wife of 11 years is Canadian. (Sorry,
dear, I'm catching up on my e-mail. Could YOU let the dog out?
<<hehehe>>).

Funny thing is as Mike Wikan put it
> "I forgot to take the garbage out AGAIN? Boy, am I stupid or what?"

That was me, actually. That's nothing; once Leann sent me to the store and I
came back with a mess of stuff, none of it what she asked me to get for her.

Well, it's good to offer some PROOF of stupidity sometimes.
