Subject: Maisto Vehicles are Back at Wal-Mart!

I know there are a number of us on this list that were collecting the Maisto
GI-Joe vehicles at Wal-Mart. These are diecast, pre-painted vehicles.
They
came in two sizes. Of the large vehicles, the LAV-25 and the M113 are
almost perfect for 25mm figures, while the Abrams is closer to 15mm.

Last spring Wal-Mart started running out of these figures. I don't know
if it
was a case of them not re-ordering them as they sold out, or if they
were pulled, but slowly they started to disappear.

Well, they're back!

They are no longer packaged as "GI Joe" and they no longer come with the GI
Joe dog tag. Instead, they are in black and blue blister packs, with
Wal-Mart's "Kid Connection" brand name on them. However, they are
definitely the same vehicles. The bottom of the vehicle clearly shows they are
still made by Maisto. In fact, the only difference is that they no longer have
the red "GI Joe" logo on them (which is actually a big plus). Another plus is
that they are only US$1.76 (down from US$1.96).

I picked up 2 LAV-25s, giving me a total of 10 LAVs (including the old
ones). As in the GI Joe version, they come in beige (sand) and a green cammo
scheme. I also saw beige Abrams, beige and cammo M113s, and most of the other
vehicles from the GI Joe line. There were a couple of other vehicles, that
looked like light recon vehicles with missiles or HMGs on the top. These seem
a little big for 25mm.

Along the same lines. The Corgi Vietnam series of die
casts are on sale at Toys R Us. Down to $4.99 for M-60
tank and a UH-1HB. Good stuff.

I also picked up from KB Toys a Gundam ship with 5 25mm tall gundams. I think
these have been mentioned here before. Ship is a good looking interface or
assualt shuttle for 15mm or 25mm (if you squint). The package is now on sale
for $9.99.

I saw those. They looked good (in around 20mm in scale), if a bit limited in
range.

Don't forget Johnny Lightning. They produce a line of US WW2 military vehicles
(trucks, jeeps and halftracks) that work really well for 15mm WW2. These are
fairly inexpensive, and already painted. The Battle of the Bulge line looks a
little nicer than the D-Day line.

Check out the Rumble Bots that The Beast mentioned. They look pretty cool,
even if they are a bit expensive.

I've been waiting for them to drop in price.

I laughed out loud... "Listen up you primitive screw heads!"

Finding decent Johnny Lightning mil vehicles around here is almost as
easy as finding the in-state Matchbox cars (pretty much all they have
here in Maryland of those are the Calif cars :-/ ).

They haven't dropped in price for me. I was just at a KB last night; they were
still going for $13 in my area.

:-/

That all said, does anyone know sources for submarines miniatures? I've been
searching around, and except for a couple WW2 Jap models,
I'm not finding much. :-/

The Old Crow Catalog lists a submarine and a mini sub in their 6mm range.

If you're interested, email me off list and I'll send you a copy of the
catalog... that was originally provided by someone on this list.

Not sure what scale you're after, but Old Crow do a decent 1/300th scale

waterline resin SF submarine (it looks like any other submarine to me, YMMV).
And a bargain at just UKP3.85 (roughly USD6). As has been mentioned before,
Old Crow are very impressive, both in design and manufacture standards. I
still have the whole of the Old Crow catalogue scanned if you want to take a
look (130Kb for one page, around 1Mb for the whole catalogue zipped).

Other than that I can think of one or two Revell submarine kits, although I
don't think that they're waterline.

Wait, you're telling me that I can get 1" tall mobile suit model for about two
bucks? And they're painted?

Lightning Strike, here we come. That's similar to the DP9 models, and on

the small side.

On the down side, kbtoys.com lists 7 items for Gundam, plus the PS 2 game
Zeonic Front [1], and none of them are ships or 1" tall. Although ONE model
that's FIVE inches tall is a lot like five models that are one

inch tall, at least in certain management styles.

[1] Good game, I picked it up with my system. A mix of mission planning,

fog of war and limited intelligence combined with blowin' stuff up AND playing
the bad guys. Four of five stars, good deal at $35.
