I was looking over the FSE ships the other day and was reminded how much Jon
reused ship bodies in the FSE line.

Trieste is a modified San Miguel (or vice versa). The Milan is a modified
Suffren The Jerez is a Sufferen with a tail assembly The Ypres is s Milan with
a tail assembly The Roma is a Ypres with the notches filled

A great reuse of hulls! Realy brings the designs together. And quite logical
for a navy to duplicate as many parts as possible to reduce logistics and
repair.

The ESU is similar using the Warsaw hull in the Volga and Tibet. The NSL also
trade parts.

Again kudos to Jon.

I think the kudos should be given where they're due - Jon didn't design
any of the FSE ship models AFAIK... except for the Requin (by Schoon) and some
of the fighters, they're all by Paul Copeland. (As are virtually all the

NAC, ESU, NSL and KV ships - don't remember if he did the SV too.)

Jon should be given full credit for the even more modular UNSC ship range,
though :-)

Thanks, I thought that I read somewhere that Jon purchased the designs, but
could not find the reference. Kudos to Paul Copeland! Kudos to Jon for
obtaining it.

Paul C. did the NAC, FSE, NSL, ESU and K'V. Dave Garnham did the S'V and the
infamous Phalons. IIRC Mike Broadbent did the OUDF ships for Eureka. As Oerjan
says, I did the UNSC, the IF, and most of the GF fighter range, and I'm doing
all the new ones that are coming out now.....

Originally they were a joint effort between GZG and CMD, with Paul (CMD)
designing the ships and us marketing them and providing the rules; when Paul
had to give up through ill health, around 1997, we (GZG) bought the whole
thing from him and now own and produce all the ranges.

(Insert bad sex joke here)

And in other news WotC put up a book up free for use with Alternity, called
Warships
It's a 2-3 meg download and even if you don't have any intention of
playing the game, it makes intersting reading and is full of fun toys. If you
do
play Alternity w/spaceships then you want the book alot. It makes space
combat so much better.
