As it happens the plan is not to actually shut this list down, at least in the
near future. After I leave BI, the list will stop accepting new messages.
Instead, should you post a message to this address the server will pop a
message back to you saying something like 'this list is now closed, please
send mail to the new list location of blah blah yakkity schmakity'.

tell you what it reminds me of. I used to work for a firm that rent PA systems
out to stadiums & arenas for gigs etc. I used to go in the next morning to rip
all the stuff down and pack it back to the warehouse.

You'd walk into a big arena and it'd be silent. There'd usually be tons of
litter on the ground - programmes and flyers and food cartons and
whatever. The really big covered places always had this wierd vibe about them,
like you could still here the noise of the crowd in the back of your mind.

That's what posting this post right now feels like. Too strange.

I kind of like the 'ghost ship' image better - more fitting for an SF

Funny I thought I was just being overly sentimental hanging around on this
list. Odd but its the list I've spent the most time on alternately posting and
lurking. I met quite a fe interesting people in that time.. Mostly lunatics
like me though.

I like the ruins of Pompei analogy..Very fitting.

For some reason it reminds me a little of the Traveller universe..The Long
Night and all that. Civilisation gone and possibly never going to
reappear..Although I suppose we've already set up our own 3rd Imperium on the
GZG list.

Anyway enough with the rambling.

the switchoff was announced had (hold on a sec) 284 names on it. That was on

Nah. It's just like the turn-over between Honor Harrington's Fearlesses
-
the building of the second one (the CA) was IIRC already started when the
first (the CL) was scrapped, so there was always a Fearless in the RMN

Hey I like it but don't go trying it on me. I can't say being the last person

around here these days. Even if most of it consists of unsub messages gone
awry.
