For a few years at GenCon, there was a group playing Star Wars games. The
fighters they used were Micro Machines Star Wars fighters. The starships were
scaled appropriately. The stands put the ships at about waist high. (I
recently came across some pictures from those games.) They weren't using FT,
but I always thought that FT would have made a better game.

There were also games of Ogre at GenCon with 25mm figures for the infantry,
and all the other vehicles scaled appropriately.

I always wanted to play a DS2 game using 25mm figures and a large school yard
or something. Now I'm thinking I might some day play FMA with some of my
1/6
scale figures...

Allan,

When you want to give it a go let me know. I would like to do the same. Maybe
ECC? Course the whole room would have to be used <G>

Ya know, it's funny that you say this, because I've been gently tossing the
idea around about doing a 15mm DSII event at ECC one year. I mentioned it at
ECC IV, and Jon D asked (after seeing my new 15mm vehicles from Brigade and
DLD) if I was still seriously thinking about this.

Perhaps one day...yes. :-)

Sorry, Bob, your post was missed in the huge volume of stuff these last few
days.

I can't guarantee a trip to ECC next year. However, I will definitely keep it
in mind. Most of my action figures are still in storage, but I have enough for
a half decent Normandy game (I may be a little light on Allies,
though...).

No vehicles, but if using FMAS we wouldn't really need vehicles. Have to
figure out a way to do terrain that is portable!

*Smacks forehead*

Sorry, I was thinking of something else, a 1/6 scale FMAS game! *L*

I have plenty of 25mm that I could use for infantry. Vehicles, though, would
be a problem. We'd have to find enough vehicles to do a half decent DS2 game.
I'm guessing that we'd end up with an infantry heavy game, but that's not such
a bad thing.

I have vehicles for two platoons in two different armies (Japanese and NSL). I
also have a gunship and four VTOL transports. I'm sure we'd maybe, pulling
resources, have enough for an interesting large scale DS2 game.

Indy, you're going the wrong way. What you want to head towards is 6mm FMAS.
That way you can put a full sized starship on the table (although at ECC you
should be able to put a CH on a table in 15mm).

For terrain I am thinking Cardboard boxes for buildings. (I am getting ready

expensive computer hardware not crash around in the cardboard boxes) covered
with army blankets for hills. Trees are easy if we can get enough decorative

I should have my stuff unpacked by then and if Los is back he can add

I have, I think, two Navy Seals. Maybe three, but I thought two. I also have
two SAS (Nigel and the limited edition Nigel). I have the female NY Police
Sniper (she looks vaguely like someone I know... *grin*) and the Delta Force
guy. That's all I have for counter-terrorist. I do have the female
Vietnamese figure. Most of my figures are WWII, though I have 6 Civil War
figures.

On the other hand, I bought some 40-odd US special forces figures from
Nic at Eureka. These are for a specific FMA scenario. The scenario in question
will involve them going into a cave complex against Greys (think standard UFO
aliens). I bought the Greys from Nic, too. However, this is a Delta Green
scenario, so there is something else in the cave, too. (I won't spoil it for
anyone playing DG who doesn't know the secret of the Greys.)

Yes, though nobody would use GI Joe figures. They suck compared to the high
quality figures from Dragon and Sideshow Toys.

Note: I have several GI Joes. I have the Marine Sniper (forgot to put that in
the list!), the D-Day Salute figure, their Collector's Club Confederate
and Union soldiers and Generals Grant and Lee, and their WWI US pilot.
However, I
got the sniper when GI Joes were being re-released. If I were to do it
over, I'd skip the ACW figures and go for the ones from Sideshow toys (I have
Berdan's Sharpshooter and 57th Virginia figure), I'd buy the Dragon sniper in
stead (far, far, FAR better camouflage stuff), but I would still get the Grant
and Lee figures.

Note to TomB: Sideshow makes a WWI Highlander! Thought I'd mention
that...

Oh, darn... Just went to Sideshow... They are taking preorders for a limited
edition Confederate Bugler and... a 146th NY Zouave! Where's that credit

Okay, yes, GI Joes are cheaper. They were going for around $40 Canadian while
Dragon was going for around C$60 to C$70, depending on the set. I'm very fond
of Sideshow, though, which is around C$50 for a figure in the Dragon class.

Hasbro's GI Joes have gotten a bit better... they had to, compared to the
competition.

I can redress some WW-II as terrorists. I think about 12 on 5-6 or so

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet (as a newbie it's hard to sip from
the gzg-l fire hose), but the HMGS have run a couple games with the 1/6
figures at Fall-In!, there Gettysburg con. The pics I've seen are really

impressive. It had entrenched ww2 German forces against a us force fighting
through a farm with vineyard and a small village. I think the play area was
something like 40'x20'. The guys went nuts with very impressive buildings, and
they action shots were cool because the figures could be appropriately posed.
I don't even want to think about the cash outlay, they had most of the
1/6 vehicles to accompany the troops.

I had so much fun playing FMA for the first time in Ghostbusters that I had
been toying with developing a JumboFMA scenario using modified GI Joe (the
modern ~1/8(?) type). FMA at least limits the number of figures you'd
have to customize to an SF universe.

I have pictures of one of the games at Fall In! 2000.

The size is about right. The buildings were simple. They were wood "shells"
that opened up in back. They had cut outs for windows and doors. Now that I
think of it, a little while with a jigsaw, some plywood (painted when done)
and some hinges could make a reasonable village that lay flat.

The cost outlay? Well, you're talking about US$40 for the Dragon figures they
used, each, plus about US$150 to $200 for the Stuart tanks. I think they had a
German tank which was made by a company that does custom creations. I think
that runs you about US$200.

Personally, I'd have left out the tanks. The force was too small. A purely
infantry game in FMAS would be cool.
