Group,
I have painted my Kra' Vak ships in a gloss red with red shading and black
zebra stripes. I guess I might need pics of these also to go with my Sa' Vasku
pics.
Anyway, what other color schemes have people used on their Kra' Vak ships?
And same with any color schemes used on Phalons, I have not painted any of...
those... things.

G'day,

Sounds cool!

Definitely;)

The guys here have both gone with a lighty-greeny blue with lighter blue
picker out the raised bits (like the lines along the engines and stuff).

Dereks will have a nautilus shell with the body of a 'blood' nudibranch
(basically cream with red edges and dorsal stripe) with purple on the
raised/gun bits. I'd have a bit of a quick look around marine sites <no
bias there huh? ;)> for some pretty good inspiration - especially pics
of nudibranchs, coral reef species or plankton.

I have my Renegade Legion...uh, I mean, _Alarishi_ tanks painted
black, lunar grey and dark red in a tiger strip pattern. Don't know how
realistic tiger strips would be, but at least the colors should be okay for a
moon of a brown dwarf orbiting an M star.
I was under the impression KV saw in ultraviolet. Perhaps those few of our
listers who see UV can find some UV filtering sunglasses and let us know what
the difference in appearance is,
say for rocks, water and foliage--the sort of things you'd be
considering when painting camouflage?

Oh? Kinda fits neatly in with my KV paint scheme: French blue on top, sky blue
underneath, engine details picked out in black and gold, tips
of K-guns in silver, sensor dishes in copper. No pretense at
camouflage (to a human eye, anyway), but they look good.
No Phalons, though, I'm afraid, but my Sa'Vasku ships (all three of
them) are pearlescent pale green with dark green, red, blue and/or grey
spots, with yellow and black highlights here and there.

Can't help you much here. Anyway, not sure the also-UV crowd is what you
want; I thought KV were UV dominant.
I've seen UV to visual(for us spetrum-limitied folks) translated photos
of flowers that showed what seemed single color, unpatterned blooms had a
bordered, dark outside, glowing inner 'star'.
I'd say tiger stripe in many seemingly bland backgrounds could work against
KV. Whatever 'breaks up the outline' is almost as good as 'blending in'.

My Phalons are a light purple with a tan shell, said shell sporting Amerind
designs of various sorts (originally these were random designs, but a
relatively recent trip to western North Carolina allowed me to pick up a book
on Cherokee stuff and now the designs will have meaning
:)

My KV are flat purple, closer to mauve, with Polish Crimson or Turquoise

For Kra'Vak, I might suggest a somewhat simplified color-replacement
scheme.
Start with a standard camo design.
Replace With Red Black Orange Dark Red
Tan Dark Red/Dark Orange
Yellow Dark Orange Lt Green Bright Yellow Dark Green Medium Yellow Dark Blue
Dark Green Bright Blue Dark Blue Dark Blue Medium Blue Light Purple Light Blue
Dark Purple Very Light Purple Light Purple White
White/Grey Stripe White/Black
(Glo paint if available) Black Random Medim to Dark color Small bits of
contrast color should be added in random very light or very dark color
(replacing black spots in Human camo).
For Phalon, I am tempted to suggest various flesh tones, but I will resist (or
did I?). I think that light green for the "nose" and pearlescent White
(Light Blue/PurpleYellow highlights). As beth suggested, think
seashells.
Alternatly, you could use all browns/tans (think snail).

KV color: I would also suggest large patches of monocolor. The contrasting
colors to KV eyes appear as monocolor to human eyes. Also in the Red end of
the spectrum, colors may switch and break the pattern (color appears the same
to KV, but differentiated to human eyes).

I've done my Sa'Vaksu sort of like spiders (black and brown with
pink/red
bits).
However, this thread has given me an idea for the Phalons - fish! Lots
of greens. blues, and turquois.
