Being a lurker on this list- for what it's worth let me add my deepest
condolences to what I can only imagine is a hurt and wounded nation. It is
truly one of the darkest days I can possibly imagine, and as mentioned before,
all of us north of the border send our best wishes to you all.

Just heard about the attacks on the US
Nothing else to say.......
> Just heard about the attacks on the US
Evidently a number of airliners were hijacked and purposely crashed into the
Pentagon, the World Trade Center in New York (which was hit by at least two
planes) and other places.
As an employee of NASA, I was called this morning and told not to
come to work. From my fellow co-workers who were at work earlier this
morning, I have heard that they are searching every car going into the place
where I work, and things are a mess.
All airline travel has been suspended within and into the US. I have heard
that Canada has also shut down air operations (can someone confirm this?).
Caltrans (people who do road construction in California) have been ordered off
all the bridges in the San Francisco Bay area. I believe that the Golden Gate
bridge is closed.
Just to correct something I said earlier. The Golden Gate Bridge has been
closed to foot and bicycle traffic.

It's 2:54am here in Melbourne Australia and I've been watching TV since about
11pm when the news broke (right in the middle of The West Wing, how's
that for heavy irony) and all I can say is - Oh My God.
Both WTC towers hit by planes and collapsed. Pentagon hit by another plane.
Another plane down in Pittsburgh, possibly hijacked, possibly shot down.
These are the reports we're seeing live on our free-to-air networks
here, most of whom are carrying the CNN coverage, one carrying BBC, and one
carrying - well another network I can't identify.
> All airline travel has been suspended within and into the US. I have
International flights to NYC and Washington (and possibly others?) have been
diverted to Canada, going off reports, so I don't think they've shut down
incoming flights just yet. Outgoing, probably.
Personally, I am in shock. I am on the other side of the globe but this has
just rocked me, my family, my friends whom I've been in contact with via phone
and ICQ, all of whom are still up and watching TV. Some of them know people
(often via email pen pals) who work at the WTC.
To everyone over there in the US I send my thoughts, prayers (even though I
not be a very religious person) and support.

get the bastards.

Not sure about domestic flights, but all US-bound flights are being
diverted to Canadian airports. Given that the trans-Atlantic &
trans-Pacific polar routes are the two busiest air routes on the planet,
there's hundreds of extra flights into Canadian airports right now, and
naturally gonzo security - the RCMP & Forces are stretched flat out.
My condolences, for what it's worth, to all the Americans on the list. This
should have stayed in Tom Clancy's novels were it belongs...
While I have no losses myself, I do feel somewhat sad. My thoughts and prayers
go to those in and around the crisis.

My uncle works in the Pentagon, and he sent me this account of what happened
on the 11th.

Additionally my brother is stationed aboard the Carl Vinson, which is
currently in the Persian Gulf. My thoughts are with him, and any of you who
also may fear for loved ones around the world.
