Better yet... any chance adding these babies to the Geo-Hex
inventory? Those resin tanks look SWEET! Just the thing to go with my
UN troops and their APCs. (It would be even sweeter if I could track
down someone who plays SGII locally, but as the poet-sage Mick Jagger
said "You can't always get what you want.") BTW, I hoping to start reading the
Hammer's Slammers series as soon as I can track down a copy of the first book.
According to Amazon.com and Barnes $ Noble, it's out of print. Normally the
next stop would be the
library. However, I found to my chagrin that none of my area libraries
have it either. I'm going to check out the used bookstores tomorrow. However,
if any one on the list can help me track down a copy, I'll be eternally
grateful.

Mark,

I have several copies laying around, just let me know, if you need one.

Try second hand bookstores. Usually at least one copy. If not let me know, I
may have a spare.

All the stories from Hammer's Slammers have been reprinted in the newest
editions, currently available from Baen Books. The only difference is they
appear in a different order, and there's no book *specifically* entitled
Hammer's Slammers, now.

You are in Wisconsin? If so, there's a copy of the original Hammer's Slammers
at Marquette University. If you go to your interlibrary loans office, quote
them this

The OCLC number will help them order it immediately...

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here, but didn't Baen Books just recently
release a compilation book of all the early Hammer's Slammers stories,
including the first short novel and short stories that appeared in other
places? I'm sure I saw this in a store in the last six months.

OK, then what books should I be looking for? What order should I read them in?

I believe they should be read in the following order:

The Tank Lords Caught in the Crossfire The Butcher's Bill The Sharp End

I'm not exactly positive though; my books are at home, and I'm at work...

Most of the stories don't have any connection to each other, anyway. They are
arranged in "the order the author finds most satisfactory", which doesn't
necessarily mean chronologically.

Yep, I've bought most of them from my local specialist bookshop (in OZ), so
they should be available in the US.

Don't forget to start with:

Hammer's Slammers At Any Price

Hammer's Slammers is incorporated into all the other books.

At Any Price may be first; it hasn't been re-printed in the 90's,
according to the Books in Print I just checked. The Warrior, Rolling Hot, etc,
are all also made into the new series. It's a good buy. Most books have one or
2 full novels, some short stories, and a novella.

The Sharp End is last (chronologically), but it is a
self-contained novel.

I don't know if that's true. The Slammers books have been
republished/edited I
think by Baen Books in the U.S. They are being presented in a "chronological
order" with various small inconsistencies between stories smoothed out. The
republished books consist of a novel sized story mixed in with novella sized
and short stories either published elsewhere or for the first time. I haven't
bought any yet as I have most of the originals.
