Helped my mate put his Islamic fleet together this weekend, now we need to
paint them.
Anyone got any pictures of painted Islamic ships on a website.
The 3 schemes we're thinking of are 1) Orange 2) Sand 3) Green, White and
Black (like the flag)
Cheers

Which brings up a question I've been wondering about. I have FB1 and FB2 (and
I love the new design system... currently working on a ship record sheet
printer... but that's for later). I have a pretty clear idea of the design
philosophies of the NAC, ESU, FSE and NSL, so if I'm called on to extend the
range of ships I think I've got a good chance of building something that'll
fit reasonably well.
But... what about the other powers? The Islamics, UN, and so on? I realise
that there aren't ship lists for them, but has anything been ventured in terms
of design cnocepts?

I thought about sand but these spaceships, so don't have much sand to hide in.
When--Real Soon Now--I get around to stripping and repainting my IF
fleet (they won't come out to play, they've been depressed since they saw
Agis' Kra'Vak ships), they'll be black (main body) and green (wings). The
green is a metallic, specifically DecoArt's Crystal Green, which I picked up
in a craft store. Add a tiny bit of detailing, then gloss or satin coat. If
I'm feeling overconfident, I'll paint on hull numbers in white on
the starboard wing. Note that Arabic numbers go left-to-right (unlike
their script) but the digits aren't the same as ours (even though ours are
called "arabic"). If I'm feeling insanely overconfident, I may try painting
ship names for some of the BBs and SDNs in Arabic script, using a 000 brush
and a magnifying glass. If you actually achieve that, though, I don't think I
want to know about it.

Right now (ie this week) you can find stats at
Chris,
The Hattin Hvy Cruiser appears to be 1 mass over. I suspect
that you intended it to only have 1 Class-1 Beam (which would
make the mass and cost come out correct).

Oops. That's what it used to was (the "extremely past tense").
SDN Arabiya
Mass 204 cost 698 + fighters and remoras
Hull 50 (13 13 12 12) Armor 10 MD 4
FTL + 12 tug cap (4x Mass 3 remora scouts / BJs)
5xb2 (centered on FP FP F FS FS) 2xb3 (3arc) (centered on FP, FS) Mass 16
spinal weapon (undefined as yet, assumed to cost 3xMass)
2 SMR-ER
9PDS 1 ADFC 1 screen 3 FCS 1 Hvy Ftr or Hvy Interceptor
SC Remora Scout (no miniature, bash an ESU Lenov):
Mass 3 cost 12 (no upcharge for non-FTL since a SDN or BB will be
tugging it) Hull 1 MD 9 No FTL Sensors E (assuming cost = 5xMass)
CH Hattin 84 mass (Jon said the mini is intended to be around Mass 80) cost
287 Hull 23 (6 6 6 5) 6 armor MD 4 FTL 3 b1 4 b2 (3arc) (centered on FP, F, F,
FS) 1 Heavy Needle (3arc) (centered on F) 4pds 1 adfc 1 screen 3 fcs
Note: I assume Heavy Needle is Mass 3 + 2/extra arc. Option: delete Hvy
Needle and 1 FCS, add 2xSMR or 4 MT missiles or 8 mass of whatever you like.
If it's alll weapons, your cost drops 1 point to 286, since you're deleting a
FCS.
Also add: CP Sahaabah Mass 64 Cost 222 (244 to account for no FTL)
Hull 15 (4/4/4/3)
Armor 4 MD 6 No FTL 2 b1 4 b2 (3arc) (centered on FP, F, F, FS) 2 SMR 4 PDS 1
ADFC 2 FCS
Carriers are pending. The CVA will be about Mass 180, and that's about as far
as I've gotten
Bear in mind I haven't seen the miniature yet, nor run this past Oerjan:
CVA Madinah (Medina)
Mass 184 Cost 633 + fighters
Hull 41 (11/10/10/10)
Armor 10 MD 4
FTL + Tug Capacity 6 (2 remora scouts/BJs)
4 b2 (6 arc) 9 PDS 1 ADFC 2 FCS 6 fighter bays
Optional: add Screen-1 in exchange for a fighter bay, no points change.
(Screen-1 was initially specified, but the Kra'Vak are now perceived as
more of a threat than the PAU).

Drat. I knew something looked odd...
A heavy Needle is supposed (per Oerjan, 8/23) to be mass 5 + 3 per 2
extra arcs, so that would be mass 8.
Okay, make it standard 3 FCS, drop the Hull to 22 (6/6/5/5), and you can
freely substitute the HNdl for 2xSMR, 4xMTM, 8xsubmunitions, or 4 x B2 (in
addition to the 4 already mounted). Cost is 288 regardless of weapons fit.
G'day,
> I may try painting ship names
Oh dear, I was about to suggest a sable 20/0 would be better option....
Sorry
I'm only going to try painting the name on the 30cm-long space station I
ordered (GF007 from the FT list in the back of the book). Only because its
HUGE...
[quoted original message omitted]
I've had success with _very_ small rub-down lettering (Letraset). I find
the easiest way is to print the ship's name onto a small piece of plastic
strip painted to match the ship, and then glueing this to the
ship as an extra piece of panelling / detail.
See
http://www.brigademodels.co.uk/NoFrames/Galleries/SFS-1.html
for an example
(the fourth picture down is a perfect shot of the nameplate).
