Is there anybody out there who has seen any of the 1/300 Irregular SF
armor? Some of the different sorts described in an ad in the most recent issue
of Wargames illustrated sounded interesting, and the prices seemed to be
pretty good as well. I hate the idea of having to get them shipped from
England, though; the shipping costs would probably be murderous. Is there a
U.S. importer? And are the models themselves even worth considering?

I have indeed.

They were reveiwed in WI? Interesting, I thought WI had a no-F/SF
policy. I must investigate. Have they had an attack of common sense?

+50% airmail, +45% if order over twelve quid, +33% surface, +25% if
over twelve quid (for U.S.A. and Canada). Supposedly add an extra +10%
for currency conversion, I would think that there would no need if using a
credit card. It is not unknown for me to order from Irregular one day, and
take delivery the next (It should be said that I don't live very far away from
them).

Yes, but I haven't the details.

I think so. Irregular Miniatures are cheap, cheerful and generally have a
certain amount of character. The modelling is usually pretty coarse, often
flat areas bear the impression of the sculptor's fingerprint, but they paint
up nicely.

It should be noted that Irregular also do C20 vehicles. This means that unlike
some ranges (CMD and GW) the vehicle actually appear to be 6mm scale (because
the sculptor has experince of how big real fighting vehicl es are). Vehicles
come in distinct "families" with APC and missile vehicles etc. using the same
modified hull. Also they mix happily with Irregular's C20 ranges should you
which to "low tech" trucks, bikes etc.

Irregular also do a medium vast range of 6mm scenery.

I bought the entire IM range 2 years ago since then they have added a few more
vehicles. IMO the moulding is about 4 out of 10. The vehicle designs are about
5 out of 10. Be preared for lots of filing & filling. IMO Copelands I would
rate 8 out 10 for moulding and design. There are some vehicles in the IM range
that are better than others. Off the top of the head the APC's are quite good.
Some of the MBT's are OK but badly moulded. The air vehicles are pretty cruddy
apart from the assault craft which are OKish. The troops are a really good buy
and
these are the ones from the DS2 pictures - highly recommended!

So they're cheap and cheerful and contain a good set of GEV vehicles. I have
had heavy metal shipped form the US to UK, OK it cost a bit but it isn't
prohibitive, I got clobbered with the duty which is much higher than the

freight. IM have an distributer in OZ but not so sure about US.

They come from the IM catalogue. It's what you pay for shipping if you order
direct from Irregular to the US.

Well, I would imaging Mr.Kovel buys in bulk at trade prices and gets them
shipped by surface, or some such. Price for one Infantry
stand would be 15p + at least 25% and then convert into $, which
would come to about 30 cents.

Tim Jones compared them to Copelands vehicle and I must say I don't seem to be
as impressed with these as the rest of the world. For a start they strike me
as well oversize, and I don't like the surface detailing. It does not seem to
represent anything obvious, it's just irritating clutter. I have a few
companies of CMD APCs and I spent a certain amount of time filling in the
surface detail with miliput, because I thought it detracted from the
miniature.

The U.S. Distributor for Irregular Miniatures is Silver Eagle Gaming Supply,
in Georgia. The proprietor's name is Jacob Kovel, and his Email address is:

It was just an ad, not a review. However, either WI or Miniature Wargames DID
review some Battletech figures in their most recent issue (Most recent from
the viewpoint of someone in the U.S., that is...), much to my surprise. I
can't remember which one, since I tend to confuse the two rather easily.
Thanks to everybody for the response, by the way. I'll check out Silver Eagle
when I get out the chance. One last question, though: The Irregular ad
mentions some "Dustworm" figures. Are these supposed to be
non-copyright-violating Sandworms, ala Dune? And in any case, how do
THEY look? They might make a desert battle really interesting....
