It was also fun to find that the INSS MacArthur was based on a model
kit -- and I had the kit! Shame it got left behind when I moved to the
UK.
Phil, who made a couple of "Imperial" starships not unlike the Mac from bits
of ESU and NAC ships put together.

Given your mention of ESU and NAC bits, would this be the one?

Please note that John Green doesn't have the ship, just a piccie and a
waiting list. ;->=
I had one LONG ago, and still have pieces of the later GitD 'Ghost' ship.
If it's not the same ship, still worth a look, methinks.

Now, you're bringing back memories! I had this one too. MANY fun day were
spent flying it through the house. Also one of my favorites when I was home
sick; I would dream of space adventure until I fell asleep (took my mind off
puking).

My God. I had that model when I was around 6 or 7 years old! And it did glow
in the dark. Scared the crap out of me - but I couldn't stop playing
with it.

I remember way back in 6th grade we had a spelling book that was based around
a journey into deep space. The drawings that went along with the lessons had
that ship used as the vehicle for our brave astronauts and our lessons.
Imagine the looks on my classmates faces when I brought in the
glow-in-the-dark version :D

Ye Gads! I had that one too--don't know what happened to it, though.
Perhaps there was some perfidious chemical on it that forced one in later
years to be a wargamer... :-)

Ironic that the nose section is shaped similar to this model.

Just teasing; I lust for such items to grace my shelves.
Those who can't, collect. Luckily, those that can often are too poor to afford
the materials to do for themselves. *heh heh*

OK. Now I'm starting to get worried. I had this one also. =80

Get more worried. I've started to notice the main body has the same
'shoulders' as some shampoo bottles, thinking maybe I can use one to make a
somewhat smaller version.
Got's to be bad when you start making personal care decisions based on the
gaming uses of packaging.
Whoops, that's grist for a longer OT thread than personal injuries! Sorry!

cardboard, styro, etc for terrain/buildings, and pieces of plastic
cutlery and plates waiting to become the same and vehicles and ships and...

I prefer the model of the "Lenin". Look at the description: IIRC it's
literally described as "shaped like a bottle of port"...
My pile of styro (2'x3'x 1" sheets) is about 7' high!

You never saw the 'Chocolate Berserker' -- or what happens when a guy
takes a shampoo bottle and paints it dark brown. (8-)
I was trying to scratch build a model for GZG-ECC last February, for my
Berserker scenario, and it went horribly wrong. I wanted it to look like the
hull was carved from an asteroid, so I covered the bottle in milliput to give
it the 'rocky' look, and painted the whole thing dark brown. That made it look
like a chocolate bar (to my absolute horror), so I mixed the brown with black
to try and give it some highlights. So, it ended up looking like a chocolate
bar with fudge sauce.
I gave up at that point. (8-)
Right now, I'm actually try to scratch build something with the remains of the
chocolate berserker, and lots of Sculpy. We'll see what I get this time.

Start with a chunk of styrofoam and flat black or dark grey spray paint.
That is what I did to make my moonscape terrain for the Moonbase Xi scenario.
I would suggest starting with WHITE styrofoam. The larger the "grain" it it
the better for this application. (note: it will be more fragile than smaller
grain styrofoam).

Yeah, I figured that out after I mangled the shampoo bottle. (8-)

I seem to recall something about it being "Egg-shaped" but that may be a
mis-remembering of some other story. (I know the Battle-ships for the
first
Empire were according to one short story in the "War-World" series :o)
