Having ordered from Jon and had it shipped to Canada I've noticed that the
import duty is a huge part of the final cost, near 30%. What is the import
duty like to the states?

I want to take advantage of these great deals Jon's putting out but if the
duty doesn't outweight VAT, I'm just going to wait till I'm over there in Feb
and pick it up first hand.

I'm sure he wouldn't object to selling it now and holding it for you until you
picked it up...

I'm in Virginia; have ordered direct from Jon several times and never paid any
import taxes.

Hmm... might have it sent to mail drop friend then.

We can, _on request_, split an order down into two or more smaller
packages
- a lower value per package means they are less likely to be checked by
Customs and charged for; this means you may pay an extra pound or two in
total postage/packing costs, but you stand a higher chance of escaping
duties on at least some of the packets. 30% is VERY high - what did they
class the goods as? (normally we label them as "metal toys" or similar (NOT
untrue....!), which AFAIK should avoid the higher duty rates).

As someone else suggested, if you want to take advantage of the January offers
but collect in person in Feb, we can do that; place an order through the
online store but put "to be collected" or something in the "shipping info"
part of the order process; we'll then pack and charge the order in January,
and simply put it aside ready for you to collect.
