Subject: Impending AAR - SG2
Hi all
Just a note to say this last Saturday evening, at Autumn Assault 99, a
pleasantly well-recieved SG2 scenario was played by a number of players
old and new.
The scenario was a 'limited information' type of scenario. One side commanded
an NSL Panzergrenadier Platoon (foot for the scenario) and the other side an
OU Marine Platoon. Both platoons of Vets. Different TO&Es.
Each side thought the other side had lost an aircraft. Both sides wanted to
recover any interesting bits, and any downed aircrew for interrogation.
The truth was.... more interesting. The downed ship was a KV stealth
scout with some KV crew (4 survivors to be exact - 3 hunter caste, and
one predator caste). They didn't want to be "rescued" by either side -
they had their own plan.
I will post the AAR that describes the full scenario, TO&E, and the full AAR
later this week.
The end result was the NSL, led by Paul MacNeil of Kingston, Ontario and
assisted by Tom McCarthy (yes, THE Tom McCarthy) of Kanata, Ontario and Doug
Schavo of Kingston, Ontario eked out a marginal victory over the OU forces led
by Gary Kett of Kingston Ontario, with assistence from Mark Boisvert of
Ottawa, Ontario and Tom? of Ottawa Ontario (never did catch Tom's last name).
The NSL bagged a dead predator (partly because in two sets of die rolls, each
with a D12 and D10 added, I totalled SIX.....) caste KV and three different
"interesting artifacts" from the wreckage. They also took only two casualties
despite heavy firefights and repeated suppressions. The OU got away with a
live hunter caste predator and one artifact, but took seven casualties. The
remaining two KV escaped. VPs showed at 25 for the
victors, 21 for the losers, so it wasn't a really one-sided game.
There was LOTS of shooting, quite a bit of manoevre in the centre and out on
one flank of the board, and the KV were a little bit of a surprise for the
forces involved. ("Hey, something just shot at us from the bush and
dissappeared. That didn't sound like an OU rifle....and if
that was an OU marine, he sure left funny looking footprits - two toed -
must be a Ninja...."). Everyone seemed to have fun (I'm hoping Mark will join
us for another game sometime soon) and we gave out some prizes that
KR/Nick/Jon had provided (remains of last years prize packages!) which
were well received.

All will no doubt be pleased to discover I've recovered quickly from Mr.
McCarthy's merciless bolts of sarcasm (he explained it something like
this "It's a bit of a conditioned reflex - see Mr. Barclay, make fun of
him - like the dog and the bell...."). Fortunately, that has been a
common behaviour amongst my pals for eternity, so the carapace is quite
capable by now. Besides, if Tom wasn't being funny I'd worry about him being
sick.... after all, what are friends for?.....;)
And besides, as he usually does, the Big Guy in the Sky struck back on my
behalf... Tom left the Convention facility and promptly locked his
keys in his car while it was running. We had to call a tow-truck and try
to keep Mr.McCarthy from getting hypothermia while his car merrily purred away
with him trapped outside of it..... There's a lesson there about teasing me
Tom, honestly....;)
