Hello!

As the proud owner of 100 Superior ships, I'd like some help identifying

which are which...

Terrans and Enomatolians are no problem - there are pictures of them at
the Deneb Clash homepage:) I really like the Bug ships (...except the
carriers... but I'll convert them somehow), although they are a bit large
compared to the rest of my ships (especially the Dreadnoughts).

Then there are five HUGE ships (17 cm long, some 7 cm wide (I'll have to
measure in inches to use these:() and fairly oval), three long (~3") and thin
ones (looking a bit like one of the common B5 freighters) four or five looking
like tyres with a small starship fitted across, three...
small (star bases? Circular things with turrets - some facing in towards
the middle of the ship?!) and a few other light units I can't describe easily.

Anyone know what they are supposed to be? Not that I'll call them that, but
it's always fun to know...

Can ya ascii-draw 'em? Someone did a while back for one of the Avarian
ships and it was fairly easy to ID.

Deneb Clash is my PBeM game and I had the pictures of the ships scanned

for that page. I do have pictures of almost everyone of Superior Model's
ships. I would be glad to help you figure out which ones you have.

William Char is working on a web page to sell Superior's minis online. He has
crossed some hurdles but has a few more to cross before he is ready. Though I
have heard that most of Superior's ships are now being produced, up from the
limited number a couple of months ago.

Wow!

First of all, a big thanks to all offers of help!

Sorry for not replying earlier; I've had very little time for emailing these
last few days:(

> > As the proud owner of 100 Superior ships, I'd like some help

Several people asked (this is Dean's version of it):

> OK, now where did you get them?

Outlands bought a box of them at a garage sale, and sold them to the highest
bidder at rec.games.miniatures.misc. Obviously I was the only bidder:)

As I said, I've identified the Terran (49 ships, including 18 Scout Leaders)
and Enomatolians (28 ships).

Mark (...Kochte, I think, but I lost the post:() suggested that I draw

ascii pictures of the ships I didn't know. Here's an attempt:

First there was five BIG ones. John Crimmins has a picture of one of
these at http://www.voicenet.com/~johncrim/fullthrustMISC.html, so I
won't try to draw it.

Then there are...

sides look just like the uppermost one...)

C'est moi. :-)

That looks like a Terran VICTORY on John's page. If you have one of each,
then you have a Carnivore POLECAT, an Entomolian (spit ;-) SWARM, an
Avarian GRYPHON, and an Aquarian TYPHOON.

Dunno this, either; me and my bright ideas.

Not sure; don't have it (there's a lot I don't have).

OK, think I know these two - they are NOT Superior ships, but some from
a boxed set produced by GRENADIER a long while ago (late 70s?); the box was a
mix of a dozen or so very different ship types, with no actual names or
descriptions supplied (I have one set, including the original box). I guess
they were intended as a general ship mix for roleplayers (eg Traveller) for
occasional encounters, rather than to give battle fleets for miniatures
combat. If I'm right on the ID, the big one is about 70mm-ish in length
with a circular front section and two small "weapon/sensor" pylons,
while
the "round" one (about 35-40mm?) looks like it is made from a coil of
wire... ?
Looks like you've got a mixed bag here, but they're all classics of starship
miniatures gaming!! Got any Eisenwerk or Valiant ones in there??

Could be one of the Superior starbase/fortresses? How big is the model?

This one has REALLY got me stumped - sorry!

Oh, hey! Yeah! Alrighty, the top one looks a *lot* like the Medium Cruiser in
Grenadier's "Space Squadrons" line, which I picked up ~20 blisters or so some
while back. There are actually two variants, one is slightly larger and has
two raised surfaces going out from the center of the disk section to the sides
(a "<" shape, in your orientation above) while the smaller one has only a
single raised surface, oriented along the length of the ship.

> the box was a

Hmm, looks like they did come out with a line/background for these
things, then; the blister backs have a little blurb on them:

SPACE SQUADRONS

Stellardate 2998. Interplanetary war has broken out between the Earth
federation and the Alien planets. Star fleets are on the move and action is
yours to create with the finest Battle fleets available to today's adventure
gamer.....

OK, maybe they are just generic, then... it talks about an "unparallelled
miniature creation of fighter, support and auxilliary craft, plus many
interesting accessory items."

<shrug>

> If I'm right on the ID, the big one is about 70mm-ish in length

Well, mine match up to that length... the larger one is about 75mm, while the
smaller one is 70mm. I don't have any of the round things, but they're
pictured on the blisters fighting one of the Heavy Cruisers in the line.

No. Five VICTORY-class... and just like John says on his page, one of
'em
is enough for an entire fleet of normal- (ie, GZG-) sized ships. Good
for demos, though!

OK. Since Outlands bought them second-hand, they didn't check their
origins too closely. They're nice anyway:)

> If I'm right on the ID, the big one is about 70mm-ish in length

Sizes are spot on. I'd describe the "round" one as a worn tyre, but the coil
description makes sense too.

No idea! That's why I'm asking for ID help!

Slightly less than 2" across.

This configuration resembles the Orion class CA from the Valiant Stardate:3000
line. The forward section was a disc with one large
tube-like
projection near the front top. Below the disc section was a small weapon
mount. The pylons on the side mounted forward facing tubes appearing to be
weapons and sensors. The long middle section was very modular-looking
with both sides slightly angled. The rear three engines were almost identical
mounted in a triangular configuration. Inside each engine exhaust were two
nozzles. Overall the ships in this line were very detailed with a near future
look to them. Most of the Terran ships followed this design with a forward
disc section, followed by a modular block section, and ending with large
engines with plenty of exterior plumbing. These little guys were my favorite
minis, but unfortunately I only own a few of the Terran ships.

If anyone knows where I could find some of these old minis, I would greatly
appreciate it.
