Now that there are [official] minis for the UN and IF are there
[official]
color schemes and insignia for them? I've seen some non-canon things
here and there, and assumed that the UN was deep blue and some adaptation of
the
modern 'UN Globe',and IF something like Red/Black/Green with some form
of crescent insignia, but given the NAC "A" and the FSE's "Bull" inisgnia, the
FT equivalents could be fairly significant departures from thier modern
counterparts.
If the IF is fairly agressive and expansionistic, may I suggest an arm holding
a scimitar (sort of the sword of Allah approach). And if the UN is performing
the same function that the UN has today (with all the similar engagement
restrictions), perhaps concentric alternating red and white rings
(a la a bulls-eye).
Actually, on a more serious note for the UN, I like the idea of a medium blue
UN on a white ship.

Funny that, I've been painting some ships I've designated as UN vessels a Ral
Partha "Paladin Blue". (it's actually more a midnight blue or a
deep blue - but it's blue! :)

I was thinking of the UN as being white and blue with silver or gold trim, and
the IF as red, green, and white or black. But that's just my feeling.

We've been talking this over at the workshop, for painting the display ships
(they're just in bare metal at the moment, haven't had time to do them!) and
the current thoughts are white and pale or mid blue for the UN (probably
overall white with blue detailing), and maybe either white or cream with green
and gold detailing for the IF. Note that neither of these have actually been
TRIED yet, just talked about, and may in the event look disgusting (especially
the IF one)!!
For insignia, the IF could be a crescent and star combination, or the sword
idea (or a mix of the two....), possibly in green and gold; I think the UN
will still use some kind of Earth globe, probably in blue.

In my view the IF flag is divided into three horizontal stripes of Black,
White, and Green, with no insignia. The Nyrath map has the Saeed Khaliphate
flag as green, bearing the crescent and star in
white. I wouldn't expect red except in a ESU-influenced state, and
given the ESU is supplying ships to the PAU, which is hostile to the IF, I'd
say it's unlikely.

My IF ships are black with green markings and a small amount of
detailing in white and gold, then gloss-coat three or four times. If
I were using GZG mini's with good detailing, it would look great. Even with
the cheap styrene figs I'm using it looks okay.

Possible although the Caliphate needs something too
> or the sword
Since the House of Sa'ud uses a white saber on a green field (with
some scripture from the Quran), I'd think the post-revolutionary IF
would shy away from that. I selected black, white and green as their colors
because, in Arabic symbolism, black = strength, white = purity, and green =
paradise. Note that the Prophet, on whom be peace, used a plain black and a
plain white banner.

I imagined that the UNSC insignia would be white on blue. The Earth surrounded
by a number of stars equal to the number of systems of the inner colonies.

I'd stick with the crescent / star combo.

Interesting. Most of my IF ships are slated for my Ar'Evin fleet, painted in
green and gold, wheras at least some of the UNSC ships currently on order are
for the Kimbere Commonwealth flet in white and blue... and I made these
assignments on the basis of general hull shapes rather than potential
colouring schemes <g> 'Course, some of
each go into the Cha'ka-Lah raiders with grey-on-gray hulls :-/
Dark green with gold trims does look a bit flashy, but certainly not
disgusting.
