I've been looking for these answers, but can't find them clearly in the rules
of FAQs
1) What excatly is meant by "Any ship touched by template during its flight
suffers damage" (MT p4)? Does that mean that when I fire a wave gun (from
where I _end_ movement) and then another ship that crosses that template
at any time during that turn's movement, it takes damage? This means you have
to keep track of opponents' movement for the turn, to know his path, right?
(or you back-track from his written orders)
2) Since they always only fire straight ahead and hit whatever runs into them,
to WGs require a fire control?
> 1) What excatly is meant by "Any ship touched by template during its
it is the movement of the template. It only lasts for 1 turn, but whatever
falls in the shadow of the template is affected.
> 2) Since they always only fire straight ahead and hit whatever runs
Yep
Hiya Noam!

I am pretty sure that the "its" in "its flight" refers to the template. I have
never played with wave guns, but it would seem to me that this movement would
be carried out after all other movement.
> 2) Since they always only fire straight ahead and hit whatever runs
My first impulse is to say that no firecon is needed, but the point is mute
(unless your plan is to have no other weaponry aboard) since no other weaponry
may fire during the same turn as the wave gun. (More Thrust p.

No. That refers to the "flight" of the circular wave templates. NOT the flight
of ships.
> 2) Since they always only fire straight ahead and hit whatever runs
I would say yes, though AFAIK it isn't specified.
Could I have a copy please?
After re-reading the rules (amazing what you find when you do this), I
discover that, perhaps, I have been playing the Wave Gun incorrectly for some
time now. I, and our group, have interpreted "one turn" to actually mean from
firing to the end of the firing phase (I.e. just like a beam weapon). If the
rules actually mean what they say, then I have some questions:
1) One Turn. Is this: a) From firing to the end of the firing phase. b) From
firing to the end of the turn (end of current turn). c) From firing to the
beginning of the next firing phase (one complete turn).
2) Any Weapons. Does this include PDS? (Our assumption was yes)
3) "... In a straight line bearing directly forward along the ship's current
course" under vector is read as: a) current course b) current facing (our
assumption).
While on the subject of Wave Guns... With the expanded fighter movement and
Salvo Missiles in FB, the Wave Gun has lost much of its value (that of
sweeping the sky of fighters and
missiles). Fighters and standard Salvo Missiles have a one-turn range of
30"
(24move+6range). Fast Fighters and ER Salvo Missiles have a range of
42".
The Wave Gun has a range of 36". When fighters could only move 12" this gave 2
turns to catch them with the Wave Gun.
