Will anybody here admit to reading Star Fleet Battles? I vaguely remember seeing a scenario called something like "The Valka Episode".

The "Valkha Episode" was in Starfire. it was the scenario where the Khanate Battlecruiser Valkha broke into Terran space-essentially a rehash of the WWII Bismarck tale.. > -----Original Message-----

Guilty! How about "The Lone Grey Wolf"? In which a Klingon dreadnought is trapped deep within Kzinti space. I can hunt up the scenario descriptions later if there's an interest, and there *ought* to be some OCR software at the new jobsite... I never did play any of the SFB campaigns so I can't comment on the playability, but it did look reasonably balanced and entertaining. > --- Nyrath the nearly wise <nyrath@clark.net> wrote:

There is a SFB mini-campaign based off of a B-10 I believe that has to travel through 3 different enemy held territories to get home. On the way they get jumped by Lyran, Kzinti, and Hydran I believe. THe B-10 might have been a different ship but it was a very enjoyable game. I vaguely I believe the mini-campaign you are referring to is "The Lone Grey Wolf", about a Klingon C8 dreadnought trying to make it home from deep in Kzinti space after negotiations take a turn for the worse. The "Admiral Kang" makes it safely back to klingon space. As someone already said, "The Valkha Episode" was a Starfire scenario in "The Stars at War" scenario book. This had a followup "what-if" scenario dealing with the planned Orion attack on the Terran shipyards at Galloway's Star. In the historical outcome for the first scenario, the Valkha dies.

I think you're referring to "The Lone Grey Wolf", in which a Klingon dreadnought has to get back home from deep inside Kzinti space. I've played it a couple of times and it's a fascinating, very challenging mini-campaign for both sides. [quoted original message omitted]

The Kzinti gets six pursuing forces, from a battle cruiser to a freighter. Six scenarios are played. 1d6 is rolled to determine which pursuing force is in this scenario. If the roll indicates a force that has been already destroyed, that scenario is skipped. Every 20 turns, an additional pursuing force is rolled for. Any Kzinti vessels captured by the Klingon become Klingon escorts. Each captured vessels starts with the Klingon prize crew being unable to operate the weapons. Inbetween each scenario, each prize crew has a 50% chance to figure out how to fire them. Ordinance may not be replaced inbetween scenarios, and only limited damage control is available. At the end of turn 40 of the last scenario, an overwhelming Klingon relief force arrives and destroys any Kzinti

Yea, me too. I have already purchased an elevation map of South-Eastern Ohio, near where my Grandmother lives. It has many rolling hills, sunken roads, woods, farm houses, barns, oil wells, farmland, coal mines, strip mines, orchards, a landing strip (small plane) and Wayne National Forest. Perfect terrain for a DS2 scenario. I plan to sculpt the hills to match the actual elevation map. Then place forest and buildings to match much of the terrain. Elevation changes in the area are on the neighborhood of upto 350' (~100 meters), more than enough to hide tank groups. ----- Brian Bell bkb@beol.net http://members.xoom.com/rlyehable/ds2/

No. Did I forget to mention that my Dad's house is there also? (I'll teach him to shoot me in the back in the King of the Hill FT game...). ;-) Actually, I thought about doing it for Battletech, when I played. But never got arround to it. The hills are tall enough to hide Mechs. Most terrain just feels artificial. Either it is too sparce or it is set up with an eye to provide tactical advantages. I thought that terrain based on actual terrain would be interesting. The area is beautiful. I could go there to better model the terrain. And it is varied enough that it should present a challenge. ----- Brian Bell bkb@beol.net ----- > -----Original Message----- Elevation > changes in the area are on the neighborhood of upto 350' (~100

I have been experimenting with converting actual terrain (Digital Elevation Model) to a 3D graphic view. I did an overview of New Haven Ct for Los that came out quite nice. If you are interested in seeing what this would look like for the terrain you are talking about send me the Lat Long of the center or corner points you are interested in and I will see if I can gen something up. The DEM data is 30 meter data so I generally have to artificially pump up the terrain to make it look right. Bob Makowsky [quoted original message omitted]

Mike, I didn't see your games in the Cold Wars PEL. When are you running them? I'd love to get into one if I can. As to the WIMP part, I do COLD WARS, HISTORICON, and FALL IN, I'm the "Coordinator" for our own Convention "SOUTHERN FRONT", and this year I"m also doing "The Successors" Campaign" at JodieCon. Not exactly wimpy in my book<G>. I suppose I could just move to Lancaster, but I moved down to North Carolina from New Jersey a dozen years ago to get away from snow (which lent an interesting irony to the all-time record 20-inch snowfall we got about a month ago.)<g>. GZG-ECC will be too close next year - my wife has some strange objection to me being away two weekends running, but maybe the year after I'll be able to swing both. [quoted original message omitted]
