Hello: JOY! I went down to Keith Johansen's house as planned to pick up some
of his Yamato minis. I picked up an EDF Battleship, a pack of 2 Battle
Cruisers and a pack of 6 destroyers. Here are my impressions. 1. They're on
the small side. The battleship is just over 2 inches long. They also have a
lot of teny tiny antennas and turrets to glue on. 2. The are very detailed,
although they a little rough. Keith said the minis I purchased were from the
first run. Kieth said that the second run would be far superior. He also
showed me the blister packs they will be packaged in. (Right now they come in
a plastic bag with the Star Blazers logo with the Yamato silhouette.) Nice art
work on the blister card. 3. I've seen these things painted. They look really
nice. I just hope I can do them justice.

I also got a sneak preview of the game he coming up with. It looks
quite simple. Almost Full Thrust-ish. Ships can get blown away quite
simpley. He's going to be holding demos/playtest at my local game store
in the coming weeks. I'll give a review when and if I play. Both the game and
the minis should be out in about 3 months. At the latest it will be availble
by GenCon.

Huzzah, Mark! Maybe finally you can do the anime-style capital ship to
capital ship actions you've wanted to do for so long. Keep us posted.

Paul, there was an attached file with your message, REIGOTYA. What is this
file? It looks like something tacked along with Microsoft Mail. Was this sent
automatically by MS Mail? If so, is there any way of turning it off? I have to
say that I don't like receiving unexpected files on my hard
drive...

Oh, it get's even better. Keith mentioned that after the Yamato game comes
out, he is going to do a "Legends of the Galactic Heros" space combat gave
that works on the same system. He also said that he's got a few of the LoGH
ship masters sculpted. All he needs to do is cut a deal with the show's owners
and he's good to go.

With my next paycheck, I'll probably pick up another battleship, a couple more
cruisers and The Andromeda. (I think he mentioned that he is out of Yamatos)

Hmm. Sorry about that. I'm using the Microsoft Exchange client (4.0) that
comes with Win95. I also have the MS Outlook updates that MS Office 97
installs to Exchange. I've never seen it attach files before. Was it just
header information or what?

Thanks, Paul

I'm not sure what was in it, since it's in binary. It could just be header
info. Your system is sending it each time you send a message, by the looks of
things. Did you just change your system or something? I didn't notice this
from your messages before.

Oh Good Lord! Mark, listen very closely! You _must_ post pictures of
these minis on your page once you have painted them. So, we can all see what
they look like. I've gotten out of painting minis for a while, but this might
just pull me back in.

I hope he gets the licensing rights for LoGH. The ships are not overly
fantastic looking (I still like the ones from Gall Force better), but they'd
be easy enought to paint. Also, if you can use the LoGH background, then
you're looking at 10,000 capital ships to 10,000 capital ship scale battle.
Hmmmmm, wouldn't that much lead in one place qualify the game as an EPA
super-fund site?

Yes I did change things. I added the Outlook stuff a few days ago (coincided
with me getting unsubscribed from the list). I've had a few problems since
then. I had to call MS tech support to get Exchange to stop crashing when I
replied to messages. I can't imagine why it's sending binary along as an
attachment. All I can think of is that
perhaps MS has some new proprietary email format that Exchange/Outlook
understands and the binary would translate to format info on MS clients. I'll
send some stuff to myself at work and see if I can figure it out. I hope the
attachments are at least small?

Sorry, Paul
