Well I just went out and bought Full Thrust and More Thrust. After playing it
at MIGSCON (the biggest military con in Canada) I'm hooked. Aparently there is
a lot of demand because my local gaming store just got a new shipment of Full
Thrust figures. The shipment is roughly 10 times what she has in stock.
I've played and seen a couple of games. These have tended to be all against
one or everyone for themself. Has anyone played a large fleet versus fleet
action? If so how long and how many on each side?
I've been playing Full Thrust for a little over a month now and we started out
like you did with every man for himself battles. We moved up to fleet vrs.
fleet battles with three frigates, two light cruisers, one heavy cruiser, one
torpedo destroyer, one privateer, and a battle dreadnaught on each side. it
usually runs two to three hours

I know what a Privateer is but what stats do you give it in game terms.
The book privateer has a
1 needle beam 1 A beam 3 arc?
1 shield
6-8 thrust.

I've played those. My group has run several campaigns which for various
reasons boiled down to one big fight right at the beginning. So we've had some
pretty large battles. Probably the biggest worked out to about three capital
ships, six cruisers and fifteen escorts per
side. That kind of a battle will take forever (12+ hours) to resolve,
and it really isn't what FT was designed for. We have gone to great lengths to
try to promote small battles in our newest campaign, but since we haven't
started it yet I can't tell you whether we've been sucessful.

Yes, I've played fleet actions; usually a couple or two of capitals on each
side, roughly the same number of cruisers (but that's rising as we
get cruiser-looking models finished <g>), and up to a dozen escorts per
side.
Game time - about 4-5 hours for these larger games, but this can be cut
some by using squadron movement and firing.

We almost always play large fleet actions (so it seems). A typical game
might have 2-3 capitals, 3-4 cruisers, and numerous escorts on each
side. We usually have 4 players and can play this game to a "forgone
coonclusion" in about 6 hours. These fleets will include all manner of ships
including carriers, missile boats, cloaked ships, etc...

I play mostly Star Wars, and we often do fleet battles... largest to date was
4 star destroyers, and 2 interdictors plus 20 fighter squadrons
vs. 20-25 assorted rebel ships and 20 squadrons of fighters. It played
about 6-8 players.

I played a large Babylon 5(ish) battle at Gaelcon 95 last year. An earth
allinace fleet (NSL Models, standard ship designs) consisting of
5 capitals (carriers/dreadnoughts) and about 8 cruisers and lots of
escorts,
engaged a Minbari/Vorlon (Micro-Machines)contingent of 5 heavy/battle
cruisers. The Vorlons used Sa'vasku rules whil the Minbari were superfast and
hard heavy cruisers. It went on for about 6 hours and by the end it was
starting to turn towards a Minbari/Vorlon victory, mainly because of
the Vorlons. The Minbari got pretty badly torn up.
It was good fun and it looked great. We'll be doing the same at Gaelcon 96
here in Dublin at the end of October, if anyone feels like coming over here.
Its rated as possibly the best convention in Europe by many. If anyones
interested I'll get some details and send them to you.

We seem to like playing "everyone against the Kra'vak". Last big battle
we did had four players - the Kra'vak with 15,000 points of ships (a
couple of super ships, four large carriers, and lots of escorts and cruisers),
and the three human players with around five thousand points each (mixture of
NAC, NSL and ESU fleets). We fought it to the point where the Kra'vak had
expended most of its scatterguns and fighters, and was about to get attacked
by a totally unharmed NAC, and a tough, heavily armoured and slightly
scratched NSL fleet.
The fun thing about such battles is when you get into such dilemmas as "do I
really want to rush to the rescue of my 'ally', considering that he's facing
the full might of the Kra'vak?".
(Sorry Simon, but I *tried* to get there in time, but you know how slow my
fleet is with all that armour massing it down:)).

Cool. I wish they would stock them better around here.
> I've played and seen a couple of games. These have tended to be
I'm not sure what your estimate of large would be, but I usually run basic
demo games with 8 players(4 per side) giving each player a small battle
group which usually consists of one capital, 1-2 cruisers, and 2-3
escorts. A good game can usually fill the typical 3.5 hr time slot used at
most conventions. I like using a variety of ships for gameplay. This gives
players a chance to find the strengths and weaknesses of each type.

Ya I read it last night flipping through the rule book last night, about five
minutes after I posted my message.

Where are you located, out of curiousity? Are you talking about Bayshore
Hobbies? Just wondering...
> I've played and seen a couple of games. These have tended to be
I'm running one by e-mail right now. There are about 30 ships a side,
including a half dozen capital ships each side, down to 16 escorts per fleet.
It's just into its second turn, but so far I'm happy with it.

Ya why are you located near the Greater Hamilton area?:)

Sadly no. Unless we can invent a teleporter before the end of next month.
What about hitching a ride on a sub? There always seems to be some of those
floating around over here...
