Subject: How is that David Drake Project Coming?

Hey all:

A few months back, Mike Elliot posted a message saying the David Drake was
going to be working on some "official" gaming material (rules miniatures, etc)
with GZG. I was curious about how that coming along.

Later,

So it's "The David Drake" now, is it? I know many of us worship him, but

Doh ! I got the newsletter a coupla weeks ago and didn't cross-post it
here. A Hammers Slammers miniatures game is a GO. They ran the numbers and got
a reasonable chance of a profit. So it's gonna happen.

Iain Dickie is publishing, John Lambshead and John Treadway developing the
project. Absolutely no details or schedules as of yet.

These constitutional guarantees can not be estimated too highly, or protected
too sacredly. The reader of history knows that for many weary ages the people
suffered for the want of them; it would not only be stupidity, but madness in
us not to preserve them.

This is from the April edition of the David Drake Newsletter:

The miniature gaming book on Hammer's Slammers is on hold while John
Lambshead, who'll be writing the scenarios, deals with marine nematodes (his
day job). John Treadaway, the modeler, is the third partner in the project.
(Well, really, I'm the third partner--they're doing the work.) Two top
miniature companies, Old Crow and Ground Zero Games, have offered to build
free models for the project to our specifications so long as they can sell the
line to the public as 'approved by David Drake'. GZG has further offered to do
spaceships for us and provide a license for their space war rules, Full
Thrust, on the same terms.

There's no money in this, but it's fun. It's also the way
communities--and
capitalism--are supposed to work. I'm pleased to be a part of it.
