No, don't apologise, I like the idea of using a historical force as the
basis for an SF army/fleet. Anyone get any other similar ideas?

How about the Wars of the Roses? Knights, Longbows, Bills, lots of minor
states siding with one or other of the major powers to decide the succession
to the imperial galactic throne....

Obviously--

Knights:  Wars of Roses knights dismounted often.  Power-armored
infantry in IFVs

Bills: Line infantry with a lot of ATGM teams.
