Hi,
I've just subscribed to this list so I have no idea what it is like-
perhaps I should wait a bit but I guess I'm keen to jump in! So, hello to
everyone.
I've picked up the Full Thrust rules and will be trying them out with my
wargaming group once my mini's have arrived. I wondered if anyone knows where
I might find a complete gallery (online) of all the models available and also
if there are any rules for some the fleets not covered in the rules
and\or
fleet books (eg UN?)
Cheers

This list is a bit peculiar in that:
a. it has a very good signal-to-noise ratio.
b. there are exceptionally few flames c. Jon Tuffley not only runs GZG, he
also reads this list d. the list members are generally intelligent,
perceptive, educated people
That last one can sneak up on you. When someone talks about physics, obscure
deep sea life, antitank weapons design, sensor detection values, or what it's
like to land 100ft away after being blown out of the hatch of your
armored vehicle which ran over a mine--please bear in mind that they
very likely know from firsthand experience what they're talking about.
Contrariwise, if you are (for example) a SAS captain and you feel a need to
correct some ignorant civilian like me who is babbling about infantry tactics,
you might want to state your credentials up front for the first couple of
times, until we get to know you.

Miniatures are available for the Islamic Federation Navy but no official ship
designs. I've been subtly hinting to Jon Tuffley (often referred to as St^3
Jon to distinguish from other Jons on the list) for a couple of years that my
designs fit the minis and would be just perfect to be designated as Official:

Hi, Ash! Welcome aboard the GZG list.
Another resource that has a wide variety of ship designs is Brian Bell's Full
Thrust Registry. You can find it at
http://www.ftsr.org
It contains a wide variety of player submitted designs. Some are good and some
are not so good. We'll let you figure out which
is which! :-) (It really depends on what playing style you like.)
Thanks to all who have replied - some useful stuff there. I had been to
Geo
Hex - not sure how I missed all the pictures, too late at night I think.
As for the stats for the new fleets, I guess it provides a good chance to
try out the ship building rules :-)
Let's hope my mini's arrive soon.
Cheers

One thing you have to be aware of is not adding a lot of "cheese" to your ship
designs. Full Thrust, 2 edition, was vulnerable to these designs as Mark
Siefert could tell you from his gaming experiences. The uberDreadnought with
three screens and loads of Class A batteries.
The Fleet Book 1 has made vast inroads in the balancing of designs, but the
"cheese" players still manage to find weaknesses. Right now, the design rules
for the Sa'Vas'Ku of FB2 can be highly cheesed into gross and abominable
designs.

With thrust 8, of course.

Go on... I haven't played with them much yet, but they seem fairly sensible.
What sort of problems have you found?

I haven't used the new Sa'Vas'Ku design rules either. There was a recent
thread on this specific topic in the past month or so.
The main problem is the ability to design a stinger node/energy
combination that can be cranked up to make it an absurd long range sniper
weapon.

Don't think there's any gallery featuring *all* suitably-sized
commercially-available spaceship models, but Tom Granvold's web site
(http://zappa.brainiac.com/spaceship/index.html) is the most complete I
know of.
If you only want pics of the GZG models, there's www.geohex.com and

No *official* rules for them yet, no; you'll have to wait for FB3 for that.
Lots of house rules and designs (for all nations, not just the UN) scattered
around the net though. The list I have is a bit dated and many of the designs
have since been uploaded to the FTSR, but hopefully at least
*some* of these links still work:

The leach pods can also be pretty awful if they are the focus of the design.

Example: we have at least one person who's an expert on exterior ballistics as
well as being an applied mathematician of some considerable ability, another
who's a Naval Combat System designer who's currently doing spaceflight
avionics for an ambitious R&D satellite, and a marine biologist who works at

Wow! I must admit that I didn't expect you to get it done within a few

The List wants you to be happy. If you are not happy, you will be
assigned to a Zinoviev-class Fast Attack Boat.

This is of course the full script. My version was merely the shortened one (to
avoid frightening the newbies...)

I'm REALLY messed up, since I'm convinced it's the paranoids who are the

My former boss once said to a bunch of us, "You lot are trying to make me
paranoid, aren't you?"
- She was hovering on the brink of self-understanding
Did we ever work for the same boss? <grin>
