source for DS2 vehicles that might work for H's S? At GenCon I found a company
that makes plastic vehicles in the right scale for DS2. They were bulky in
design, but looked pretty good. Unfortunately, they only had enough vehicle
designs to outfit one side in a conflict (unless you don't mind both sides
having identical vehicles, differently painted). I also have a set of
Micro Machines that comes with a double-barreled grav tank. They don't
look too bad, but they're hard to find. Anyone else have suggestions?
As for the Forever War, has anyone thought of converting it to SG2? If so, any
figure suggestions? Any rule suggestions? I'm not sure Forever War could be
done in SG2, though.

Memory mismatch error. TFW was about a group of foot sloggers. Admittedly, a
great deal of the book described transit to the battle areas, but that was a
minor point (And all done by computer). In SG2 the troopers would wear full
power armor (heavy, and possibly fast).
The enemy appear not to rely upon armor as much, but do use a few odd devices.
And try Jon's vector movement from Mark's web page.

If memory serves, TFW is mostly space combat, isn't it? In which case it would
be a better candidate for FT than SG2. You'd need a more realistic movement
system though (which is my main pet peeve about FT).

Hmm. My memory is the exact opposite. I remember little about it, except for
the fact that the protagonist gets attacked in a grav vehicle and has a limb
amputated by his suite, and the last battle where they move the stasis field
generator so that the armed nuke detonates outside of the field.
I can't remember much else. (I'll have to dig out the game, and maybe the
book.)

Okay; it's been a while since I read it, and the bits that I remember were
from their visits "home" after battle, and one fight in space.

Mark's web page?

Not mine! The other Mark. Siefert-man. Runs the Unofficial Full Thrust
Page.
I just run a B5-related FT one. :-}
Mark S' page can be (or should be) found at:

If you'll recall from the Hammer's Slammers books, the Slammers never went up
a similarly equipped opponent. So you'd only need ONE set of
Slammers vehicles. I'd say 3 or 6 tanks, 12-36 combat cars, a few
hover jeeps (don't forget the tri-barrel), and skimmer-mounted infantry
to taste. For OpFor (gratuitious jargon!) damn near anything. Ever notice how
Col. Hammer took a lot of jobs that required heavy fighting, but only rarely
against forces with powerguns? Smart business man....

Are you thinking of the minis that were sold in the far back corner of the
dealer room by an Indiana company? I remember they had some great detail for
the price. All the minis were cast in resin. I think they are trying to come
out with an FT line as well. They might be here this weekend at PentaCon. If
you're interested, I'll look around for related minis and get you a contact
for them.

Good point. You wouldn't really need a lot of grav vehicles (for that matter,
I have some old Eldar grav tanks that might work as Slammer grav tanks).

The calliopes might be a pain, but most of the other vehicles could probably
be taken from modern micro armour. Damn. Like I didn't have enough on my
plate, now I'm thinking of Slammers in DS2.

That's the one. I couldn't remember if they were resin or plastic. If it's
resin, it's a soft resin. The company might be Fortress Miniatures, or
something like that. They had a good line of resin fantasy figures, their
undead being particularly good. Very good detail for the price. I almost
picked them up several times, but I found other things that I wanted more.

Mike, that would be great and greatly appreciated!

I seem to recall that in book version of "The Warrior" the Slammers face
another mercenary force who has hover armor (but in this case SPGs, not
tanks). This other force also used hover APCs, rather than skimmers.
Of course, these other guys all die horribly, but there must be a scenario in
there somewhere.

The OpFor had Air cushion SPG's with 10 cm Powerguns. Even these would not
penetrate the frontal armor of a Slammer's tank with a single shot, wheras the
20 cm powerguns on the Slammer's tanks would penetrate almost
anything with a single shot. The only thing that even comes close to
being a major hazard to Slammer tanks were the Anti-tank sub-munitions
as seen in "Rolling Hot" were a single round pierced the top armor of a tank,
totally destroying it. Even these are well defended against by the
fact that all the tri-barrels of the tanks in a Slammers unit can be
used for Automatic Air Defense.
This leads to several questions: exactly how much does a Slammers tank cost??
Why doesn't anyone else have them? has anyone made conversions for SGII?

Sigh, things have not slowed down much since PentaCon - now they are
just work related.:(

Great! Thanks Mike.
