A while back, I recall someone asking what color iridium was so that he could
paint up some Slammer's hovertanks.

I've been re-reading the series and found a picture of some iridium
laboratory vessels at:

<http://www.matthey.com/noble/product/prfire.htm>

This site also has some interesting info on the properties of iridium which
explain why it would be useful as armor against powerguns (highly refractive
and "the only pure metal which can be used unprotected in air at temperatures
up to 2300 degrees C (4172 degrees F) without catastrophic failure")

Jeff spake thusly upon matters weighty:

Now the question is, would Steel or Silver be a better colour to paint the
vehicles? I think maybe Steel is a tad closer, but I'm not sure. I've yet to
see a paint in "Iridium" yet.:)

Maybe silver with a bit of metallic blue? Aluminum & blue? This might take
some work. I wonder if giving it a normal paint job would interfere with it's
properties? But one of the best things about making stuff out of Iridium is
this: the best source is asteroids! Good reason to go mining those belts! And
to

fight over those mining facilities...

I agree - I'd go for steel with maybe a splash of gold. Humbrol (UK)
metal cote steel is an incredibly close match to the colour in the photo.
Otherwise you
could polish the pewter/tin mini, that too would be close :-)

Thanks for the original post - very useful reference info

In celebration of all things slammer I have HTMLised the DS2 Slammer rules

Maybe silver with a bit of irridescent pearl white mixed in.

What about painting it silver and doing a _very_ light
drybrushing of blue?
