I just got four squads painted up of GZGs 15 mm Hammers Slammers. Only eight
more squads to go lol. I picked this particular miniature because it's generic
enough to be just about anyone. I wanted something for use as
first line army troops for GZG-verse Free Cal-Tex. I'm using modern US
troops for reservists. I decided to paint all the troops in a version of the
old US (chocolate-chip) desert cammo. The reasons for this are simple
one it really works well in western (rocky) American deserts (although I
remember standing out quite well in the Persian Gulf), Two I know the pattern
intimately and most important (to most gamers) it looks cool to
me....)
The Hammers Slammers miniatures are up to GZGs normal standards and molded
cleanly with almost no flash other than the barest on the bottom of the base.
Thus the miniature needed very little by way of preparation and was quite the
pleasure to paint.

Very cool. Speaking of Free Cal-Tex troops, is it
just me or would a revival of TR's Rough Riders be a great unit for FCT (The
majority of the RR's were from the Southwest, esp. Arizona and Texas)?

Just threw this together really quickly:
Free Cal-Tex 1st Volunteer Cavalry Regiment (The Rough
Riders)
Following the establishment of Free Cal-Tex, the
Republic became the destination of choice for many North Americans
uncomfortable with living under NAC rule. Among these were a significant
number of former military personnel. Many were eager to offer their services
to FCT. However, because they came from a slightly different military culture,
it proved problematic to integrate them into the regular military units. The
decision was made to create a new unit specifically to receive these
individuals. In order to give it a sense of history, as well as cultural ties
to both the old United States AND Free
Cal-Tex, the unit adopted the name of Teddy
Roosevelts old 1st Volunteer Cavalry Regiment (The Rough Riders), since a
majority of that units personnel had been from the region of Texas, Arizona,
and New Mexico. The unit was formed as a mechanized
infantry and cavalry unit.
The unit continues to recruit primarily from the
American NAC-Expat community within Free Cal-Tex,
though it is now a regular army unit within the FCT military structure. The
unit blurs the line between cavalry and mechanized infantry, relying on Grav
vehicles and Powered Armor for fast deployment. They act as a rapid response
force and as recon for more conventional units.
Very cool. Speaking of Free Cal-Tex troops, is it
just me or would a revival of TR's Rough Riders be a great unit for FCT (The
majority of the RR's were from the Southwest, esp. Arizona and Texas)?
I was going with Texas Rangers on Grav-bikes but then
I'm a bit of a traditionalist.........)

The RR's have plenty of heritage, too, ya know, and have appeal in FCT outside
the Tex part.....

I like.......)
Way I'm doing Free Cal-Tex is pretty much like this
Marines using LKM Marines (Aliens Move type) Reg Army Hammers Slammers.
Reserve Modern US in K-pots by various manufactures.
For the vehicle end of things inspired by the micro line from Scotia SF I'm
using the cheap Boley M1s and M2 Bradley etc. Keeping the Reserve stuff
conventional on tracks and up grading the basic vehicle type by removing
tracks and adding hover skirts and or Grav plates etc.

Yup, I was just defending the concept of the RR's, not questioning the
TR's....
To paraphrase an Old West Cliche - "This state ain't big enough for the
two of us..."

And just to confuse things even more, we've just done the actual FCT infantry
in 15mm! I don't think Paul's got them up on the store site
yet, but they are in production and available (SG15-T1)!
:-)
Quick somebody shoot him....... lol
Really not a problem, the Slammers just became Special Forces...;-p

Ok, is that one some of us are 'bespoken for'?
I was about to see if I shouldn't just blow what little cred (can't find your
note of my balance) I have left on an Xmas special, but it sounds as if you're
moving faster than I'd thought on new 15's...
Note this is not a complaint; delighted my gropos brothers have yet more
fodder to pad our LZ's...
Anymore on the horizon? And, no, I'm not pushing for small Anerexoids or
Egyptians(Eureka) again. Not yet.

Yes, you faithfully promised to buy 100 packets..... ;-)
Actually, no. We did these because we thought they'd make good 15mms (and we
were right!), not because they were customer requests.

Well, if it had been true, think of the Christmas gifts (2003, 2004, 2005...)
they would have made!
Gracias,
